Dr. Jen Mangrum is a mother of two beautiful daughters, native North Carolinian, and the daughter of two elementary school teachers. Jen studied Elementary Education at UNC-Wilmington before obtaining her Masters in Early Childhood Education from East Carolina University. Jen spent fourteen years teaching elementary in Onslow and Guilford Counties, then continued on to receive her PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from UNC-Greensboro. • Professionalize school personnel- make working in education a viable career choice by improving salaries, benefits and working conditions. Promote the narrative that educators are change agents and North Carolina educators are respected and valued.
  • Properly fund schools - provide adequate funding for textbooks, resources and personnel so that educators can be innovative and effective.
  • Expand equity across the districts - ensure that every child, whether they live in an urban or rural district, despite race or socio-economic status, have access to rigorous coursework, culturally responsive teachers, and safe spaces for learning.
I will fight for salaries to rank at the national average within 8 years.

I will fight for equitable raises for all teachers; including retirees, veterans and other personnel.

I will work with Governor Cooper, Former Governor Hunt and the Democrats in the House and Senate to lobby for higher salaries and a return of benefits and Master Pay.

• I will create relationships with Republicans and ask the same of them.

• We will use the Leandro recommendations as a road map.
