I’ve lived in the metro area my whole life, in Liberty for 19 years. I

have a Psychology Degree and Paralegal Certificate from Rockhurst College and worked at Husch Blackwell for 10 years before becoming a stay at home mom. I became a small business owner in 2011 when we opened the first of two local restaurants. My husband, John, and I have been married 21 years. He was raised in Liberty, and is a graduate of LHS. Our kids have attended LPS for all

their schooling, currently a freshman son, and a senior daughter at LNHS. I have volunteered countless hours in the district: in the classrooms; in the buildings; through fundraisers; by invitation to various parent outreach/advisory boards over the years; PTA officer for 6 years - 4 years as President, including numerous functions associated with that position; I am a LPS Youth Mentor; I am a member of Liberty Alliance for Youth (LAFY); a Liberty Education Foundation Ray of Sunshine Investor; and a Building Pride Activities Complex donor. Thriving public schools ensure desirable sought-after communities and neighborhoods. A strong community is a bright future for us all. I am Committed to our Community.
  • I am eager to encourage a positive, respectful relationship among all LPS stakeholders, encouraging trust that LPS is keeping our students education and well-being the priority over anything else.
  • I am a new candidate for school board. I feel term limits are healthy for any organization to provide new ideas, passionate energy, positivity, and different representation and perspectives from our community.
  • I've had a front row seat inside the LPS buildings and classrooms for several years - as a parent, as a volunteer, as a substitute teacher. There are many things LPS does very well, and I am determined to do what I can to continue LPS's path of excellence in education.
Retaining LPS's passionate and vested educators. Focus on educational excellence relating to reading, writing, math, science. Continue to offer a wide-variety of real world learning opportunities to help prepare our graduates to thrive after their time in LPS.
The "job" of a school board member involves a wide-range of responsibilities. One key responsibility is consistent engagement with stakeholders, to thoroughly understand their perspectives and interests. Another responsibility is to critically think, using common sense, and integrity when overseeing the entire LPS education system and millions of dollars of tax-payer funds. School board members must stay educated on legislation, and make time to research current issues, but also have the ability to consider what the future holds for the district. Through transparency, respect, and a service mentality, a school board can help ensure students are receiving the best educational experience in our area, and preparing them to thrive as young adults.
The students are the VIP's. After that, it's the entire community! Teachers, parents, neighbors, seniors, business owners, everyone who pays taxes to LPS should be treated as constituents of school board members, and feel represented and valued.
The first priority should be to retain the amazing teachers we have in our district. Talk to them! Don't be afraid to ask them what they want/need to stay committed and vested in LPS. Once our teachers are taken care of, we won't have trouble recruiting. Word will spread that LPS is the place to be; whether an educator is at the beginning of their teaching career, or as a welcoming home for an experienced teacher.
