I'm Jennifer Castillo, and I'm running to be the next Mayor of Fort Worth. As a mother of three and a businesswoman, I understand the struggles of balancing family and work in an unpredictable economy. I've been in the real estate industry for 15 years and have a diverse business background. As an Air Force veteran, I worked as an Arabic linguist at the National Security Agency, and I hold a Bachelor's in Business Management from Pepperdine University. My military experience has taught me the importance of dedication, perseverance, and hard work, which I'll bring to my role as Mayor.

As a mother, I have a vested interest in creating a prosperous city where my children can thrive, and as a military veteran, my passion and commitment to my community make me the perfect candidate to stand up for those who cannot speak for themselves. My entrepreneurial skillset enables me to implement proven methodologies and strategies that enact real change while maintaining the highest ethical standards. If elected, I'll put people over politics, create wealth opportunities for small businesses, and empower a community of leaders that will change their industry and change the world. Let's work together to address the critical challenges facing our community and make a real difference in the lives of our neighbors, friends, and families.

  • Empowering Small Businesses- I am committed to creating wealth opportunities for small businesses. I understand that small businesses are the backbone of the economy, and I will work to empower them by providing resources and support to see them succeed.
  • Bridging the Cultural Divide- This involves creating an environment where people from different backgrounds feel welcome and respected, by providing opportunities for meaningful engagement and participation. By bridging the gap between communities, we can foster a sense of belonging and build stronger, more vibrant societies that are better equipped to tackle shared challenges.

The COVID-19 pandemic has undoubtedly affected our city of Fort Worth, just like many other communities worldwide. As a resident of Fort Worth, I have seen how the pandemic has influenced local policy issues. Local officials have had to take unprecedented measures to keep our community safe, such as implementing new guidelines and restrictions on public gatherings and businesses.

As a candidate for public office, I believe that the COVID-19 pandemic has made it clear that local officials must be more responsive and adaptive to the needs of their community. We must continue to work towards developing strong and effective policies that protect and support our residents during times of crisis.

I am proud to say that Fort Worth has one of the best downtown areas in the country. I believe that we have a lot to offer to both locals and tourists alike, from our vibrant nightlife to our world-class cultural attractions.

I would like to encourage more tourism to Fort Worth, as I believe that it has the potential to stimulate our local economy and support our local businesses. By showcasing all that our downtown area has to offer, we can attract more visitors to the area and create new opportunities for economic growth and development.

To achieve this, we could work with local businesses and community leaders to create marketing campaigns that highlight the unique character and attractions of downtown Fort Worth. Overall, I am excited about the potential for downtown Fort Worth to continue to grow and thrive as a destination.
Community Question Featured local question
It is absolutely vital to involve residents in the government's decision-making process. Community participation is key to enacting meaningful change that reflects the needs and priorities of the people who live and work in a given area. Residents are experts on their communities, and their perspectives and input are invaluable in shaping policies that can make a real difference.

As someone who is committed to serving the community, I believe that engaging with residents should be a top priority for any government official. This means not only listening to what residents have to say but actively seeking out their feedback and input. It also means being transparent about decision-making processes and making sure that residents have access to the information they need to participate fully.

My plans regarding resident involvement in the decision-making process involve creating more opportunities for community engagement and collaboration. This could include town hall meetings, community forums, and other events that allow residents to share their thoughts and ideas on important issues. I also plan to establish formal channels for feedback and communication, such as a resident advisory committee or regular surveys that provide opportunities for residents to weigh in on key policy decisions.

Ultimately, my goal is to create a more inclusive and collaborative approach to governance that puts the needs of the community first. By involving residents in the decision-making process, we can build stronger, more resilient communities that are better equipped to face the challenges of the future.
Community Question Featured local question
Public record requests should be handled in a transparent and accountable manner. To ensure transparency, it is important to establish clear procedures for handling requests, provide timely responses, charge reasonable fees, and promote transparency by making as much information available to the public as possible, while balancing the need to protect sensitive or confidential information. The goal of any policy on public records should be to build trust with the public and ensure accountability in agency operations.
Community Question Featured local question
Ensuring the safety and security of our community is a top priority for me. I am committed to taking a proactive approach to addressing crime and public safety concerns.

To achieve this, I will work closely with law enforcement officials and community organizations to identify and address the root causes of crime. I believe that we must be vigilant in enforcing the law and holding offenders accountable for their actions. This means working with law enforcement to implement evidence-based policing strategies and increasing the number of police officers on the force.

I also believe that we must prioritize a fair and just criminal justice system that focuses on reducing recidivism. This will involve advocating for rehabilitation programs that support individuals to successfully reintegrate back into society after serving their sentence.

Overall, my approach to crime and public safety will be grounded in data, evidence, and focused on the best interests of the community. I am committed to working collaboratively with law enforcement officials and community leaders to achieve our shared goal of a safe and secure community.
Community Question Featured local question
Balancing the needs and desires of existing businesses and housing communities with new development is crucial to ensure that the community thrives. When planning neighborhood development, it is essential to take into account the impact on existing residents and businesses.

Gentrification and displacement can be significant issues when it comes to neighborhood development, and we must take steps to minimize the potential negative impact on the community. To achieve this, we must engage with community leaders and stakeholders and listen to their concerns and feedback.

As we move forward with neighborhood development, we should prioritize preserving the unique character and small-town feel of Fort Worth. We want to maintain the quaint life of Fort Worth that draws so many people to the area. This could involve working with local businesses and community leaders to create a development plan that is sensitive to the needs and desires of existing residents while also attracting new residents and businesses to the area.

Overall, we must strike a balance between growth and preservation. I believe that this can be achieved by engaging in open and transparent communication with community members and ensuring that any new development is thoughtfully planned and executed to minimize any potential negative impact on the community.
Community Question Featured local question
As a public servant, I believe it's essential to listen to and engage with the community in order to set priorities and develop plans that reflect their values and goals. To do this, I would hold town hall meetings, engage in one-on-one conversations with community members, and solicit feedback through surveys and other means of communication.

I would also work to build relationships with community organizations and leaders to better understand the needs and concerns of different groups within the community. By collaborating with a diverse range of stakeholders, we can ensure that our priorities and plans are inclusive and reflective of the values and goals of the entire community.
Community Question Featured local question
Public safety is a complex issue, and different cities have different approaches to ensure it. It's important to note that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to public safety, and what works for one city may not work for another. That being said, research has shown that community-oriented policing, which involves building relationships between police officers and community members, can be effective in reducing crime and improving public safety.
Community Question Featured local question
As someone who cares deeply about the environment, I am impressed by the efforts of the Keep Fort Worth Beautiful initiative to educate and engage residents and businesses in improving the community environment. Their focus on preventing litter and encouraging volunteerism is commendable.

When elected, I would work with experts in the field and community stakeholders to identify areas for improvement and develop a plan to implement changes that will benefit the environment and the health of our citizens.
Community Question Featured local question
As someone who is committed to serving the community, my plans regarding infrastructure involve working closely with city officials and developers to ensure that we are laying out the best plan for the community's needs. This means taking a comprehensive approach to infrastructure planning that takes into account the unique challenges and opportunities of the area.

I believe that infrastructure should be designed with the long-term needs of the community in mind. This means prioritizing projects that have the most significant impact on the community and finding innovative ways to stretch our infrastructure dollars further. We can accomplish this through careful planning and by leveraging public-private partnerships to fund and develop infrastructure projects.

Additionally, I believe in exploring cost-saving measures and avoiding unnecessary expenditures that could place an undue burden on taxpayers. By being judicious with our spending, we can invest in critical infrastructure while also maintaining the financial health of the community.

Ultimately, my goal is to ensure that the community has the infrastructure it needs to thrive and grow without overburdening taxpayers. By working collaboratively with all stakeholders, we can develop a plan that is responsive to the needs of the community and that prioritizes conservative fiscal spending for funding.
Community Question Featured local question
In Fort Worth, I believe that improving police attrition and investing more in retaining good officers should be a top priority. Losing experienced officers can weaken the department's ability to serve and protect the community effectively. Therefore, I would work towards improving working conditions, increasing salaries, and offering opportunities for career advancement and professional development to incentivize officers to stay.

Additionally, I would focus on improving standards for incoming officers in Fort Worth. This could include implementing rigorous screening processes and training programs to ensure that officers are well-equipped to handle the unique and challenging situations they may face on the job. By prioritizing professionalism and accountability in the police department, we can enhance public trust and confidence in law enforcement, ultimately making Fort Worth a safer and more secure community for all.
Community Question Featured local question
My priority would be to ensure the health and safety of our citizens while also supporting our local businesses and economy in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. I do not support a mask mandate as I believe in individual freedom and responsibility.

Instead, I would encourage eligible residents to get vaccinated as vaccines are the best way to prevent the spread of COVID-19. I would work with local healthcare providers to increase access to vaccines and educate the community about their safety and efficacy.

I would also promote social distancing and good hygiene practices such as hand washing and covering coughs and sneezes, although I would not enforce a mask mandate.

Small businesses have been particularly hard hit by the pandemic, so I would work to provide financial support and resources to help them stay afloat during these challenging times. I would also maintain open communication with residents to keep them informed about the latest developments and provide guidance on how to stay safe and healthy.

Overall, I believe that my policies strike a balance between protecting public health and supporting our local economy, while also respecting individual freedom and responsibility.
My passion lies in promoting entrepreneurship and economic growth that empower people to create positive change through self-reliance rather than relying on government support. I believe that by creating an environment that encourages and supports entrepreneurship, we can foster innovation, create job opportunities, and increase economic prosperity for individuals and communities. This, in turn, can lead to greater self-determination and resilience, as people become more empowered to take control of their lives and shape their own destinies, while promoting a thriving and dynamic community.

Empathy and the capacity to understand and relate to the diverse perspectives and experiences of constituents are important aspects to cultivate as an elected official. Furthermore, exhibiting the courage to make difficult decisions and stand up for what is right, collaborating with others to achieve common goals, and developing a clear and compelling vision for the future of the community are essential.

Ultimately, an elected official must be committed to serving their constituents with integrity, transparency, and a genuine desire to improve the community and the lives of those they represent. Elected officials have a duty to serve their constituents, promote the common good, and uphold the values of their community. They must be responsible, accountable, and committed to making a positive difference in the lives of the people they represent.
For many people, leaving a positive legacy is important. For me, I would like to be remembered as someone who stood up for what I believed in and fought to make a positive impact in the world. I want to be an advocate for those who may not have a voice and to inspire others to do the same.

Additionally, I believe that one of the most important legacies I could leave would be to empower my children and future generations to create positive change in the world. I want to instill in them a sense of compassion and empathy and to encourage them to use their talents and resources to make a positive impact in the lives of others.

Ultimately, the legacy that I leave behind will be a reflection of the values that I hold dear and the impact that I had on the world. By living a life with purpose and integrity, I hope to inspire others to do the same and to leave their own positive legacies.

Relentless by Tim Grover is a book that really spoke to me on a personal level. It inspired me to push beyond the limits of what I thought was possible and strive for greatness in my own life.

What I loved most about this book was how it provided practical tips on how to develop a winning mindset and overcome obstacles. As someone who has faced many challenges in my life, I found the author's personal experience training some of the world's greatest athletes, such as Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, to be incredibly inspiring.

One of the key lessons that resonated with me was the idea that greatness is achieved by pushing beyond what is considered comfortable or normal. It made me realize that I had been holding myself back by sticking to what was comfortable and safe.

Overall, I see my role as a working mother as a position of power and strength. I'm proud of the example I'm setting for my children and for other women who may face similar challenges. Together, we can overcome any obstacle and achieve our dreams.
To me, being a leader as a mayor means having a clear vision for the city and the ability to inspire and motivate others to work towards that vision. It means being a voice for the community and advocating for policies that will benefit the city as a whole.

A mayor should be a problem solver and able to make tough decisions when necessary, while also being able to collaborate with others and seek input from various stakeholders. As a leader, a mayor should also lead by example and hold themselves and others accountable for their actions. They should be transparent and honest, and act with integrity and ethical principles.

Overall, being a leader as a mayor means being a servant to the community and working tirelessly to make the city a better place for all residents.

What I love most about my city is the vibrant art culture. As a lover of art, I find that the local art scene is truly a gem that sets our city apart from others. I also love to explore the local art scene, whether it's visiting galleries or attending art festivals. Our city is full of talented artists who are creating amazing work, and it's always exciting to see what they come up with next.

Beyond the art scene, I also appreciate the diversity of our city. From the people to the food to the various neighborhoods, there's always something new to discover and explore. And despite being a large city, there's still a strong sense of community and connection that makes it feel like home.

Overall, it's the combination of the art culture, diversity, and sense of community that makes me truly love my city.
One of the greatest challenges our city will face over the next decade is ensuring that housing remains affordable and accessible for all residents. As our city continues to grow and develop, we must work to ensure that people of all income levels can afford to live here. This means working to keep rent and home prices affordable, as well as exploring innovative solutions to increase the availability of affordable housing.

By making housing more affordable and accessible, we can help ensure that our city remains a great place to live for people from all walks of life. I am committed to working with other officials and community members to address these challenges and ensure that our city continues to thrive for years to come.
I believe that the ideal relationship between our city and the state government should be one that respects the principles of limited government and individual liberty.

While the state government should play an important role in setting broad policies and regulations that apply to all municipalities, it is important that our city retain a significant degree of autonomy in making decisions that directly impact our local residents and businesses.

Additionally, I believe that our city should have a strong voice in state-level decision-making, and that our elected officials should work proactively to advocate for policies that benefit our residents and businesses.

Ultimately, the ideal relationship between our city and the state government should be one that prioritizes individual freedom, limited government, and local control, and I am committed to working with state officials to ensure that our city's interests are well-represented at the state level.
While the federal government has an important role in providing critical services and addressing issues that affect the entire nation, our city should retain a significant degree of autonomy in making decisions that directly impact our local residents and businesses.

This means that the federal government should avoid imposing unnecessary regulations and mandates on our city and work collaboratively with local officials to address issues that respect our community's individual needs and values.

Our city should have a strong voice in federal decision-making, and our elected officials should work proactively to advocate for policies that benefit our residents and businesses.

Ultimately, the ideal relationship between our city and the federal government should respect our community's individuality, support our local economy, and promote individual freedom and limited government.
Why did the teddy bear say no to dessert?

Because it was already stuffed!

My daughter shared that joke with us. The babies think it's cute when she says it to them while they are hugging their teddy bear.
As a mayor, I believe that the ideal relationship between my office and law enforcement should be one that promotes collaboration, transparency, and mutual respect.

First and foremost, it is important to recognize the crucial role that law enforcement plays in ensuring public safety and protecting our community. As such, I believe in providing our law enforcement officers with the resources and support they need to effectively perform their duties.

At the same time, it is essential to promote transparency and accountability within law enforcement to ensure that officers are held to the highest standards of professionalism and ethics. This can be achieved through measures such as increasing community involvement in law enforcement oversight and implementing body-worn cameras.

Furthermore, as a mayor, I believe that it is important to work collaboratively with law enforcement to develop effective strategies for addressing crime and improving public safety.
