2015

Florida had been making plans to run for President of the St. Louis Board of Aldermen. She ended her campaigning for that position in favor of her 2014 bid for recorder of deeds.[3]

2014

St. Louis Recorder of Deeds Sharon Quigley Carpenter resigned from office in July 2014. She had been found in violation of the Missouri Constitution's rules regarding nepotism after she hired her great-nephew. State law required Carpenter to resign the remainder of her term, ending in December 2014. It did not, however, bar her from seeking re-election. Carpenter had been in the midst of a regular election cycle when she resigned, and she announced shortly after her resignation that she intended to move forward with her campaign and retake the office. Florida, meanwhile, was appointed to fill the vacated seat and filed to run as an independent candidate for the seat.[4][5]

Ultimately, Carpenter garnered over 61 percent of the general election votes, defeating Florida and a second challenger, Erik Shelquist.[6]
