I was born and raised in Portage County, and I’ve lived in Aurora for the past 12 years with my husband Bryan and our three children. My son is starting his first year at Harmon Middle School, and my twin daughters are finishing their last year at Leighton Elementary School. My background is in ER nursing, and I’ve had the honor of serving the board of education for the past two years. I remain committed to promoting transparency, strengthening communication, and supporting student achievement. I’m confident that I can continue to make positive changes and would be grateful for your support in November.
- Balancing Aging Infrastructure with Growing Student Body: With our three elementary schools operating at or above capacity, it is imperative to work with administration to develop a long-term master facilities plan that is proactive, establishes priorities, and sets a realistic timeframe for addressing facility issues.
- Stable and Fairer Funding: Years of declining state support for public school funding is endangering public education by shifting the burden of sustaining high quality schools onto local residents. I will continue to advocate for fairer funding at the state level and work with our administration to ensure that every dollar spent locally is used responsibly.
- Enhanced Communication: During my brief service on the Board of Education, I advocated for increased transparency and improved communication. As a result, we video record speical meetings and have provided online access to our board meeting packets. As Co-Chair of the Communications Committee, I will continue to help the ACSD navigate the best methods of communication so that we can once again reach those who were regularly kept informed by the Aurora Advocate.
Public policies that I am personally passionate about are those that keep students at the heart of it all. I am proud that Aurora City Schools is not just about raising test scores, but instead raising human beings. Policies that support a holistic approach to learning are on the right track to preparing our learners to be future-ready and active members of our community.
Just as we expect our students and educators to embody the Six Core Competencies that are part of our strategic vision at ACSD, I believe those same competencies also apply to elected officials: Collaboration, Innovation, Balance, Empathy, Critical Thinking, and Resilience. These are all qualities that are critical to serving as an effective board member.
The primary responsibility of a school board is to establish the district's vision aligned with the community’s hopes for its youth. A key strength of ACSD is that, while defining this vision, the school board and administration actively sought feedback from community stakeholders. They collaborated to clearly define their aspirations for future learners, which led to the development of six core competencies that now guide our decision-making. As a board, we ensure that all our actions, including policy development/adoption, budget and curriculum approval, and the hiring and evaluation of the superintendent and treasurer, are consistent with this vision. Ultimately, the district's vision acts as the central guide for all our strategic decisions.
While our state-subscribed teacher evaluation policy determines our specific process for assessing teaching effectiveness, what makes Aurora unique is our focus on raising human beings rather than just raising test scores. This aligns with the District’s vision, developed with community input, which emphasizes six core competencies: Collaboration, Empathy, Resilience, Balance, Critical Thinking, and Innovation. Many Aurora teachers integrate these values into their lessons and consider the needs of the whole child. I believe this is one of many reasons why we are ranked #15 in the entire state of Ohio, according to U.S. News, and have received a five-star rating on the State Report Card for the fourth consecutive year.
Advocacy plays a crucial role. As the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) Legislative Liaison for the last two years, it is essential to stay informed about new and upcoming legislation that could influence our district. This helps me advocate effectively by ensuring our state and federal representatives understand how their decisions impact both the school district and the wider community. I am eager to build on my role as advocate and serve Aurora proudly.
With my nursing background, mental health naturally concerns me. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 1 in 5 U.S. children ages 3-17 has a mental, emotional, behavioral, or developmental disorder. Recently, I proudly supported a resolution to incorporate a mental health program that offers students and their families eight free mental health sessions accessible 24/7. When access to our school counselors isn’t available due to holidays, weekends, or school breaks, it’s vital that families have additional resources during their time of need.
As a member of the Policy Committee, I am proud to announce that Aurora City Schools finalized a comprehensive rewrite of our policy manual, which was adopted on July 28th, 2025. Recently, I reviewed the Policy Development Quarterly from OSBA, which included numerous policies that will require adoption as a result of HB 96. Staying current is essential as legislation continues to evolve rapidly, and I will keep advocating for regular policy updates to ensure we remain up to date.
Visibility matters. When I'm not on the sidelines cheering for my own children, I am often attending other community and school-related events. Every interaction with people throughout our community provides me insight into various perspectives and allows me to serve more effectively as a board member.
The accomplishment I am most proud of is being a mother to my three wonderful children. It is an absolute honor to watch them grow and learn as individuals, and I could not be more excited to watch them forge their own paths in life.
