Born and raised in the Harrowgate neighborhood of Philadelphia, I attended Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls in Hunting Park. I double-majored in political science and history at Bucknell University and received my Master of Arts degree in history from Rutgers University. I began my professional career as a housing organizer and grant writer for the Philadelphia Unemployment Project, where I learned about the power of raising a collective voice for economic and social justice.

After serving in the United States Peace Corps as a small business development volunteer (Islamic Republic of Mauritania, 2000-2002), I returned to the Philadelphia area. I have worked in numerous government, non-profit, and philanthropic organizations, including the City of Philadelphia's Office of Housing & Community Development and WOMEN'S WAY.

For the past 8 years, I have been the Executive Director of The Douty Foundation, where I strive to foster social change through support of grassroots organizations and movements centered on social justice.

I currently serve as Board Chair of the Economic Opportunities Fund, a regional Community Development Finance Institution (CDFI). I am also an appointed member of the Haverford Township Human Relations Commission (Chair, 2016-2019). I have also served as a Democratic Committee person in the 6th Ward of Haverford Township since 2014 (Ward Leader, 2014-2018).
  • We need invest more funding in our public education system and ensure that those funds are distributed through a fair funding formula.
  • We need to ensure that all Pennsylvanians have access to economic opportunity: good jobs, retirement savings & tools they need to weather financial challenges.
  • We need good government reforms: independent redistricting commission, public funded elections & term limits.
Areas of public policy that I am personally passionate about are:

Children & education
Community & Economic Development

Amplifying the voice for justice
I remember President Reagan breaking the union of air traffic controllers (1981- I was 9 years old) and then the uncertainty of what would happen to my dad's job as a US mail carrier. I remember him talking to my mom about "hoping things go into arbitration" because he was worried about unilateral union busting by the President and the private sector.
My very first job was scooping ice cream during the summers of high school at Penn's Landing for Jack & Jill Ice Cream. I worked there for 3 summers before graduating from high school.
