Biography

After graduating from American University, Palmieri worked for then-Rep. Leon Panetta (D-Calif.) before joining the White House staff under Pres. Bill Clinton (D) as deputy press secretary.[2] After Clinton left the White House, Palmieri joined the Democratic National Committee as its national press secretary. In 2003, Palmieri joined John Edwards' (D-N.C.) 2004 campaign for president as its national press secretary.

After the 2004 election, Palmieri joined the Center for American Progress, where she served as senior vice president for communications and advocacy. She left the group in 2011 to serve as deputy communications director for Pres. Barack Obama (D). She became director of communications at the Obama White House in 2013. In 2015, she left the White House to work as director of communications for the Hillary Clinton (D) campaign.

After the 2016 election, Palmieri wrote Dear Madam President and She Proclaims: Our Declaration of Independence from a Man's World and hosted the Just Something About Her podcast. She was also a contributing editor at Vanity Fair and the co-host of SHOWTIME's The Circus.[1]

Palmieri joined Vice President Kamala Harris' (D) 2024 campaign in August 2024. She served as a senior advisor to Harris' husband Doug Emhoff.[3] The campaign hired Palmieri around the same time as other former Obama aides including David Plouffe and Stephanie Cutter. Media outlets including The Hill and The Washington Post described Palmieri's hiring as one part of a wider trend away from staffers who worked under Biden after Harris took over the ticket.[4][5]
