Campaign themes

2014

Richardson provided the following statement on her campaign website:

FOCUS: Supporting Teachers

As a member of the governing board, I will celebrate, support, encourage, motivate and listen to our teachers. They are trained, dedicated professionals who deserve competitive compensation. They are vital partners with our parents and children in learning and deserve the resources to help them best do their jobs.

FOCUS: Local Control for Education

As a member of the governing board, I will set policies that will encourage local innovation and help us achieve higher than mandated standards. I will aid in the selection of demanding curriculum that is in line with the values and traditions of our city.

FOCUS: Work as a Team

As a member of the governing board, I would hold very little power alone. Working together, however, our governing board makes a huge difference in our district. I will work with the governing board to accomplish all of the FOCUS items above, including:

  • Setting clear policy, specific goals and a vision of excellence for the district;
  • Holding administrators accountable for achievement of those goals;
  • Ensuring that facilities are well-maintained and safe;
  • Allocating assets to promote high achievement of every student and support teachers in classrooms;
  • Choosing curriculum that reflects the beliefs and attitudes of our community;
  • Recognizing and celebrate successes; and
  • Setting the tone for healthy, professional, collaborative relationships in the district.[1][5]
