My wife Alyssa and I, are parents to four wonderful children: Hayden, Ryleigh, Grace, Sawyer, and our loving dog, Nova. All our children attend Effingham County Schools and are actively engaged in extracurricular activities within the community. We regularly attend Oak Grove Church of Christ. Professionally, I am an Operations Manager at an aviation software company, where my leadership skills and expertise in systems engineering are used to lead a team of analysts. My background as a retired Army Special Operations Officer brings extensive leadership experience and a steadfast commitment to serve others.
  • Serving our great country has always been a calling in my life. As I grew older, my desire to honor and serve our country remained steady, but I wasn’t sure how I was called to do that. September 11, 2001 changed everything for me, like it did for many people across the country. I knew that the best way to serve my country would be to join the military. I enlisted in the US Army as a Chinook helicopter (CH-47) mechanic in August 2003. After basic training, I was selected to join the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR). For the next 20 years, I served as an enlisted Special Operations Soldier and Warrant Officer before retiring in 2023.
  • Over the past 20 years, I’ve had the opportunity to live in several communities while stationed at different Army posts and while deployed. Although each community is unique, I’ve learned that local government is the very best of our country’s government. At the local level, the government's governance, support, and safety assist the community’s residents in building the life they desire for themselves and their families. Now that I’ve retired from the military and my time is my own, I want to support Effingham County by serving as the District 4 Commissioner. I promise to serve District 4, and all of Effingham County, with the same spiritual, mental, and physical strength I gave to my military service.
  • Responsible Growth Requires Responsible Leaders: Our county is under tremendous growth pressure. With no financial or family ties in Effingham County, I will make responsible decisions that only support growth when our infrastructure and services can support the growth in a manner that preserves our community.
I am most interested in working with our cities, county staff and regional municipalities to solve the complex problems facing Effingham county.

We start by making sure ALL of our cities are able to meet the foundational service needs for their residents
We resource our professional staff members to be subject matter experts working daily towards our master county plan.
Finally, as a county team we work with our partner municipalities to create a regional plan to fix our infrastructure short falls.
These are the fundamental ideas required to responsibly grow.

We must stop irresponsible growth.
Local government has the biggest impact on your daily life. Our great nation starts at the family unit, nests into a community and the sum of these communities weaves very fabric of our country. Our great country starts at the city and county level. I want to ensure our county remains great.
As a boy growing up in metro Atlanta, our neighbor was my Dad’s best friend and also my high school shop teacher whom I would occasionally ride with to school. I did not know it at the time, but it was on these rides to school that I learned so much about the values and skills required to lead and communicate complex thoughts.

I was a curious and overly inquisitive teenager (those that know me now might say some things do not change) who would ask the most complicated questions about life and all the unknowns that my future may hold. My neighbor, without fail, would always consider my questions and answer them with a relatable point of view that would satisfy my curiosity. These simple moments profoundly changed the way I saw the world and myself. His careful and thoughtful conversations built trust and provided me with actionable ideas to use in my life. Sadly, this impactful relationship ended too early as he lost his battle with cancer in my junior year.

However, because of my neighbor’s mentorship, I choose to carry forward his impactful relationship with me by helping others understand the problems they face and providing actionable ideas they can implement to make their world a little better. Just as my neighbor served me, I solve complex problems so others can be served.
This is a fun question. I think the movie characters that represent my character the most are John Dunbar from "Dances with Wolves" and Paul Edgecomb from "The Green Mile."

John Dunbar, played by Kevin Costner in "Dances With Wolves", is a lieutenant in the Union Army during the American Civil War. After an act of bravery, he is given the choice of his next military posting and requests to be sent to the frontier in the American West. He is stationed at an abandoned fort in the Dakota Territory, where he encounters and befriends a nearby Lakota Sioux tribe. He is curious, brave, and develops a deep respect and admiration for the Sioux way of life and the natural world.

Paul Edgecomb is the main prison guard in "The Green Mile", played by Tom Hanks. He develops a supernatural connection with prisoner John Coffey (Michael Clarke Duncan), who has miraculous healing powers. Edgecomb comes to believe in Coffey's innocence and tries to prevent his execution after witnessing his abilities. Paul's grappling with the ethical dilemmas of death row is a powerful and empathetic moral example worth taking note on.

Two great movies!!
An elected official must have a strong moral compass and unwavering commitment to ethical conduct. They should be honest, trustworthy, and have the highest standards of integrity.

Elected officials should be motivated by a genuine desire to serve the people, not personal gain or ambition. They must put the needs of their constituents and community above self-interest.

Officials need a solid understanding of the issues, policies, and processes relevant to the office they seek. They should have the necessary skills, experience, and competence to effectively fulfill the duties of the role.

Elected representatives must be accountable to the people they serve and operate with full transparency. They should be open to scrutiny, willing to explain their decisions, and responsive to the concerns of their constituents.

A firm belief in and commitment to upholding democratic values such as freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and the rule of law is essential. Elected officials must respect the will of the people and the democratic process.

Elected officials should possess strong interpersonal skills, be good listeners, and be willing to compromise to achieve positive outcomes for their constituents.

Elected representatives should have a clear vision for the future and the ability to inspire and lead others towards that vision. They must be decisive, principled, and capable of making tough choices for the greater good. By prioritizing these characteristics and principles, voters can help ensure they elect officials who will serve with integrity, competence, and a genuine commitment to the best interests of their community and the nation.
Policy Making and Legislation

• Enacting ordinances and regulations to address local needs and conditions within the county's jurisdiction
• Setting high-level goals, long-range plans, and policy direction for county government operations
• Representing the interests of constituents in their district during board meetings and policy decisions
Executive and Administrative Oversight
• Serving as the chief executive authority responsible for administration of county business and affairs
• Appointing and supervising certain county officials, department heads, and management staff
• Authorizing contracts, receiving bids, and managing county property and assets
Budget and Finance
• Preparing and approving the annual county budget and appropriations for all activities

• Auditing claims against the county and authorizing payments owed by the county
Public Services and Infrastructure
• Overseeing construction, maintenance, and regulation of county roads, bridges, and infrastructure
• Providing public services like parks, recreation, economic development, veteran affairs, etc.
• Regulating land use, zoning, housing, building codes, and other local planning functions
Governance and Representation
• Serving on the county board of finance and other boards/commissions as required
• Filling vacancies for certain elected county offices like auditor, treasurer, sheriff, etc.

• Representing the county's interests at state and federal levels on relevant matters
In general, people should be more aware of how local government is the bedrock that protects our individual property rights. Property rights or ownership is a fundamental element of our country's success.
My experience in government through military funding and strategic planning is an advantage when discussing how we solve are very complex problems by means of government action. The commissioner board already has a lot of local experience, my background, leadership and education brings a set of fresh ideas to build a more capable county team.
It is without question that we have extraordinarily large technical challenges facing our county. We need life experience, technical education, and sharp decision making skills to navigate the proposed solutions. We also need someone who can understand the value and talent required at a staff level to develop the proposed solutions. I bring these skills to the Effingham County team.
Public officials must be completely transparent and over communicate their intent to earn and preserve public trust. It has never been easier with our communication tools to be completely transparent.
