My name is Jeremy McClymonds, and I've called Chandler home for 17 years. I'm an Arizona native who grew up in Alaska because my father wanted adventure in the last frontier. It was in Alaska where I received the foundation of conservative asset management while working on the management of a half a billion fixed income portfolio for one of the largest banks in Alaska. A Bachelors in Finance from the University of Alaska Anchorage solidified my future in finance. After college, business opportunities brought me back to Arizona. Shortly after arriving, I married my wife Sheila of 19 years and we chose Chandler to raise our two children. Chandler was an easy decision to set up our roots, a well-run city providing an amazing quality of life with stellar schools.

I have committed over a decade of service to our community. In addition to currently serving on Chandler City Council, I have served on the Boards for my HOA, Chandler Compadres, Kiwanis CYP, Chandler Chamber of Commerce (past Board Chair), City of Chandler Parks and Recreation and Chairman of Vote YES on Prop 493 for our General Plan. I built experience with each endeavor, but more importantly a deeper understanding of the needs and wants of all those that call Chandler home.

  • Economic Development. Chandler is known as the "Innovation and Technology Hub of the Southwest" and we should work hard to maintain that. Our business-friendly environment and lifestyle has made Chandler a destination of choice for global industry leaders, exciting startups, talented workers and their families. I will always be laser focused on economic development, leveraging my experience with running my own business and as past Board Chair of the Chandler Commerce to drive commerce for our city. Sustained economic growth fills our city coffers while providing a safe and beautiful community with culture, unity and an exceptional quality of life.
  • Disciplined Fiscal Sustainability. I will fight to be responsible with tax dollars by spending them where they are most effective. I will always look to find inefficiencies and waste to reallocate those dollars to places they will actually make an impact on the quality of life in our city like well-maintained and highly functioning utility and transportation systems, parks and other recreational amenities, and robust, sustainable employment centers.
  • Technology and Innovation. Over the last decade, Chandler has created a competitive marketplace drawing many high-tech companies to our City. To continue driving the local economy, we need to recruit future innovators to set-up shop in our City. This not only gives our citizens the opportunity for well-paying, fulfilling jobs, but it allows Chandler to stay at the forefront of community innovation. We also must look inward as a city to ensure we are utilizing the best in technology to function and deliver service to our citizens.
Economic Development, Disciplined Fiscal Sustainability, Technology and Innovation are not only my key messages, but are all areas in which I'm extremely passionate. I'm currently focused and will continued to be focused on these areas throughout my time on council. That said, I believe that the biggest challenge for the City of Chandler in the next five years will be navigating the buildout. 88% of our city has already reached buildout and half of what remains is already spoken for. As Chairman of Vote YES on Prop 493, which supported the passing of Chandler's General Plan, I have specialized experience and understanding of our General Plan that outlines how and where the City should develop or redevelop as it reaches build-out over time. Council must make difficult, case by case decisions on each project while using the General Plan as a guide to deliver the optimal balance of residential, commercial, industrial and public areas. The population of Chandler is projected to reach 300,000 by 2040 and so it is critically important that we are strategic about redeveloping and reallocating resources to balance the needs of our citizens. Additionally, with the COVID-19 impact, I will be diligent to ensure we manage our expenses carefully so we can continue to provide high quality services at a low cost. We provide safe reliable drinking water, great roads, have second to none police and fire departments, a first-rate parks system and community services all at a low cost.
As an eager 6th grader, I vividly remember the 1987 Black Monday stock market crash that roiled America. My principal came into our classroom to announce the worst economic day since the Great Depression. It was a day I would never forget - one for me that goes on the list of historic events that everyone remembers (the moon landing, JFK's assassination, the Challenger disaster, the royal wedding, and 9/11). If you were alive, you remember where you were and what you were doing when you heard about them.
Since Black Monday, no market selloff has come close to this years' COVID-19 stock market crash, not the selloff after 9/11 or the 2008 financial crisis. Perhaps the significance of this event for me in 6th grade meant it was destined then that I would join the financial services industry. I wanted to help people wade through the markets, plan for retirement, and help insure their family's comfort during turbulent times. In addition to serving on Chandler City Council, I'm also a Financial Advisor and Principal Owner of a Chandler-based financial services business. I have more than 20 years of professional experience in finance, sales, business and management. Furthermore, I'm involved with a startup company and a partner in a land investment company.
