My name is Jeremy Monts. I have over 20 years of experience in the IT industry. I have lived in Louisiana for the past 15 years where I have worked in the Oil Field and Maritime industries. I believe that my years of project management experience, along with my ability to communicate with everyone from the shop floor to the boardroom are skills that will transfer well into local government.

  • I'm here to bring Innovative Solutions to Lafayette's Problems. By that I mean that I am going to use my years of IT knowledge to work with all levels of our community and local organizations to push Lafayette forward with efficient and effective policies.
  • The parish has to work together to make sure we're meeting the needs of our residents, but we also need to work toward enhancing our parish so new residents and businesses are attracted to Lafayette. With the state population decreasing, we need to make Lafayette the shining star of Louisiana.
  • We need to enhance the opportunities across all areas of the parish. We're losing some of our best and brightest youth to better living conditions, higher wages, and more opportunities in other states. We can, and must, turn that trend around and retain this talent to make Lafayette thrive.

Lafayette is an amazing and growing parish, but we need to keep our budget under control and our projects on time and on budget to continue to grow. We need to make sure we're understanding what will attract and retain residents, and move forward with smart decisions that will stem the tide of people and businesses moving to other parishes and states.

I worked as an assistant stonemason for around 4 summers. Mostly doing manual labor such as hauling brick/stone and mortar.

Resident involvement is of the utmost importance. We are representing our fellow residents, not pushing fiat decisions onto them. I believe we should have more town halls and public forums where residents can make their needs known.

I plan to make sure our existing projects are completed and our future projects are completed on time and on budget.

The Parish Council works to approve the Mayor-Presidents budget, as well as representing the local residents. Making sound fiscal decisions for the parish is the most important part of our duty.

While I believe some familiarity with politics can be beneficial, too often politicians do things for political reasons, and not the best interests of those they represent. As such, I think non-politicians are key to maintaining a healthy balance of power in government.

Since I'm focusing on budget and project completion, those skills, along with strong communications skills are paramount.
