Jeremy S. Weinstein
Jeremy S. Weinstein was a justice of the Supreme Court 11th Judicial District, Civil Term, in Queens County, New York. He was elected to this position in 2000. He retired in June 2019.[1]
He served as an Administrative Judge of Civil Matters for the 11th Judicial District from 2009 to 2019.[2][3]
2013 election
Weinstein ran for re-election to the Supreme Court 11th Judicial District. General: He was elected in the general election on November 5, 2013, with 32.1 percent of the vote. John F. Casey, Kerry John Katsorhis, Robert J. McDonald and Barry Schwartz were also on the ballot, competing for three open seats.[4][5][6]
Education
Weinstein received his B.A. degree from York College, City University of New York in 1971 and his J.D. degree from the Brooklyn School of Law of 1974.[2][3]
Career
Weinstein began his career in 1975 as a deputy assistant attorney general. The following year, he became associate counsel for the speaker of the New York State Assembly. He then worked as a partner of the law firm of Weinstein and Weinstein from 1978 to 1986 and as counsel of Black and Tamber from 1986 to 1992. During his time as a lawyer, he also served in the New York State Senate from 1979 to 1992.
Weinstein began his judicial career in 1994 when he was elected to the New York City Civil Court in Queens County. He served in this capacity through 1996 and was appointed an acting justice of the Queens County Supreme Court in 1997. He was then elected to that Supreme Court in 2000. He also served as a supervising judge of the Civil Court in Queens County from 1997 to 2007. He was appointed administrative judge, Queens County Supreme Court, Civil Term, in 2007 by Chief Administrative Judge Jonathan Lippman. In addition to his role as Administrative Judge of the Civil Term of Queens County, from January 2008 to May 2009, Justice Weinstein also acted as Administrative Judge of Criminal Term of Queens County. In 2009 he was appointed Administrative Judge, Civil Matters, Eleventh Judicial District, by Chief Administrative Judge Ann Pfau.[2]
