A native of Mason City, Iowa and longtime educator formerly at AEA267 (Now Central Rivers AEA) and at Mason City Community Schools. I am a graduate of Mason City High School, NIACC, and UNI. On top of public service, I am a musician that has entertained at and organized many events for North Iowans to enjoy over the course of several decades.

I am from a large family in Mason City that taught me the value of family and helping each other when in need. My dad (Tom), a Mason City native, was a public servant for the City of Mason City for over 30 years. My mother (Rhonda), a Rock Falls native, was a nurse here for 40 years before beginning a business in travel. I joined them with community betterment groups such as North End Partnership, which my parents were co-founders with other concerned citizens.

The opportunity to run for the Iowa House of Representatives is a natural step in my continued service to this community and this area.
  • As a lifelong educator and Mason City Public Schools teacher, Jeremy knows we need to invest in our kids and schools. They are the cornerstones of our community here in Mason City and they need to have the resources for our students and teachers to thrive.
  • Too many Iowans are struggling to make ends meet. Jeremy will fight for lower costs and higher wages for all Iowans. In order to invest in North Iowa, we need to invest in our workers.
  • Jeremy is passionate about making healthcare more accessible and affordable for all Iowans. Jeremy will be a fierce advocate for real investments in mental healthcare infrastructure at the state house.
Education is my career and my passion. I have watched as Iowa went from number 1 to number 24 in the nation as the current majority has cut funds, established unfunded mandates, and undermined our once proud schools.
Be accessible to listen to constituents, operate out in the open, be passionate about the people and place you serve.
I am a public educator, as such, I teach everyone from a broad variety of backgrounds. I know how to connect and listen to people of all stripes. With a job so deeply embedded in the community, I have a deep understanding of what's going on. All of the things happening, good or bad, are reflected in our children. I have an ear to the ground of this area that many do not.
Know the area and know its people regardless of income, religion, race, ethnicity, and political views. Be open to these voices when making decisions.
That I made a real difference in others' lives. I know that I have as former students that are now adults will reach out and thank me for something I helped them with, or I was just there when they needed someone. I want to continue this legacy.
My first job was in high school at Justino's Pizza, an Italian Restaurant that used to be on the north side of Mason City. I washed dishes and cooked there for 5 years during high school and while attending NIACC.
As our national constitution was written, there is separation of powers and checks and balances. The legislature needs to operate freely without the interference of the governor and vice versa. The framers of the constitution were clear on this and it needs to be observed.
Slow to stagnant economic growth due to aging population is evident now and can only become a larger issue. The lack of healthcare access makes Iowa less attractive for people to move into, or stay. Iowa's schools were once an attractor to families, if we don't undo the negative changes now, attracting and keeping young families will be an ever increasing challenge.
At this level, I believe that legislators should have a connection to the people that they are representing that transcends politics. With the size of districts in Iowa, we can connect with people very easily so being a citizen representative without being a longtime political operative is not a bad thing.
Coalitions are how things get done. Our government is designed to make sure we have to work together and hear other viewpoints. Working with anyone in the legislature, regardless of party, on issues where there is consensus and agreement is paramount.
I have had mentors in Rep. Sharon Steckman and former Sen. Amanda Ragan. Though I will present my own style and viewpoint, they are tireless individuals and I hope to be able to continue their energetic representation of North Iowa.
Currently, my plan is to represent my home district to the fullest extent that it can. If there is an opportunity that fits by skillset and ability to step up on another rung of the political ladder, that remains to be seen. I currently plan to simply represent Eastern Cerro Gordo County in Des Moines, and continue educating our youth in Mason City Schools.

I believe that money frequently taints politics, so full transparency is a must. The money that goes into a candidates' coffers are telling and should be public.
