Jerome Tao
Jerome Tao (also known as Jerry) was a judge for Department 1 of the Nevada Court of Appeals. He assumed office on January 5, 2015. He left office on January 1, 2023.
Tao ran for election for the Seat C judge of the Nevada Supreme Court. He lost in the general election on November 6, 2018.
Tao was appointed to the Nevada Court of Appeals by Republican Governor Brian Sandoval on December 17, 2014.[1] Tao was sworn in on January 5, 2015.[2][3][4][5] Tao was one of three judges appointed to form the court, which was created in 2014 by a voter-approved constitutional amendment.
Tao did not seek re-election in 2022.
Education
Tao received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University and his J.D. from George Washington University Law School in 1992.[6]
Career
Prior to his appointment to the Nevada Court of Appeals in 2014, Tao served as a judge for the Eighth District Court. He was appointed to the Eighth District Court by Governor Brian Sandoval in January 2011. Tao was re-elected to the Eighth District Court in 2014 but was then appointed to the Nevada Court of Appeals in December of that year. He also previously served as a chief deputy public defender with the Clark County Public Defender's Office and worked as an attorney in private practice.[6][7][8][9]

Tao defeated Chris T. Rasmussen in the general election on November 6, 2012, to maintain his seat on the Nevada Eighth Judicial District Court. Tao earned 51.02% of the vote.[8]
2013 judicial performance evaluation
In 2013, the Las Vegas Review-Journal sponsored a survey of 902 lawyers who rated Nevada Supreme Court justices and judges located in Clark County. 86% of respondents voted in favor of keeping Tao on the bench. The average vote in favor of retention for all 88 judges evaluated was 71%.[11]
