Jerry Bonnet
Jerry Bonnet was the Deputy Secretary of the State of Indiana, and acting Republican Indiana Secretary of State, temporarily replacing previous officeholder Charlie White until Governor Mitch Daniels could appoint a permanent successor. Daniels appointed Bonnet to serve as interim secretary on February 4, 2012, following White's felony convictions and resulting expulsion from office. Bonnet was then replaced by permanent appointee, Senator Connie Lawson (R) on March 16, 2012.
Biography
Bonnet was born and raised in Yorktown, Indiana. After graduating from Yorktown High School in 1976, he attended Indiana University for his undergraduate studies. He went on to earn his law degree from the University of Tennessee, a master's in business administration from the University of New Orleans, and a master's in international business and finance from the University of Texas at Dallas. Upon receiving his degree from law school, Bonnet applied his J.D. to the practice of commercial law and election law. He spent 18 years practicing in Texas and Louisiana before moving back to Indiana, where he lives today.[1]
Bonnet serves on the Comprehensive HIV Services Planning and Advisory Council and the Indiana Code Revision Commission. In 2009, he was honored by the Indiana Protective Order Pro-Bono Project for his work representing victims of domestic violence in Marion County superior courts.[2]

Political career
Bonnet served as general counsel for the secretary of state’s office from 2005 until his appointment to deputy secretary of state by then Secretary Charlie White on March 14, 2011. Having already served as deputy during parts of 2008 and 2009, Bonnet was the clear choice for the role, vacated by previous deputy Sean Keefer days earlier.
