Lecko highlighted the following issues on his campaign website:

In representing the community on the School Board, the following are key responsibilities I have practiced and goals I strive for:
  • What is best for children should drive all the decisions we make.
  • Act with integrity, transparency, respect, and with an open mind that recognizes differences and diversity.
  • Adopt a fiscally responsible district budget that supports appropriate, innovative, and effective educational opportunities and programs. Additionally, a responsible budget should provide for the unexpected down-times, as well as the good times.
  • Boost the effectiveness of District Staff through support, recognition, respect, and genuine interest from the School Board level.
  • Encourage and support parent awareness, engagement, and involvement as parents represent the primary providers for their children. And, in partnership with their children's teachers, coaches, family members and community, empower and assist parents in giving their children the best opportunities for educational and personal development.
  • Seek out, engage, collaborate and work with ALL stakeholders of the School District – Staff, Parents, Local Community – to build a cohesive, inspiring, and successful educational system for La Mesa-Spring Valley children.

In the developmental years of kindergarten through 8th grade, starting with their parents and family, I believe the child is the beneficiary of the positive interaction of the adults in their lives. With as much time and contact children spend in the school environment, we adults, as a community, must work together to ensure the schools of La Mesa-Spring Valley offer safe, inspiring, challenging, and appropriate educational opportunities that support the character, values and needs of the diverse neighborhoods across the District.
It is up to us adults in the community to cooperatively and effectively make sure our children have the best opportunities for education, personal development and growth, and potential for a good, productive life and happiness.
"Kids are our future . . . . . only they don't know it yet" (author unknown).
I believe we have the skilled education professionals - teachers, district administration and dedicated support staff - with the vision and commitment to mold this great District into an even finer District. I am honored and privileged to have represented our community on the La Mesa-Spring Valley School Board. I would like to continue serving you, the taxpayers, parents and our students.
I appreciate your confidence in me and for your continued support.[7]
