Jerry W. Venters

Jerry W. Venters was a bankruptcy judge for the United States bankruptcy court, Western District of Missouri. He was appointed in 1999 and he was succeeded on the court by Cynthia A. Norton in February 2013.[1][2]

Education and early life

Judge Venters graduated from Bentonville High School and attended the University of Missouri-Columbia and received a Bachelor of Journalism degree in 1965. From 1965 to 1973, he was a reporter for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and was the Post-Dispatch's Jefferson City bureau chief from 1971 to 1973, where he reported on state government and politics. Later in 1976 he received his J.D. from the University of Missouri-Columbia. While in law school, he was the Missouri Supreme Court's public information officer, and the first person to hold that position.[1][3]

Career

From 1976 until 1999, Venters was engaged in the private practice of law in Jefferson City, Missouri, specializing in a bankruptcy practice, representing both creditors and debtors.[1]
