Jesse White (Illinois Secretary of State)

Jesse White (Democratic Party) was the Illinois Secretary of State. He assumed office in 1999. He left office on January 9, 2023.
White (Democratic Party) ran for re-election for Illinois Secretary of State. He won in the general election on November 6, 2018.
White previously served in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1975 to 1991, and served as Recorder of Deeds for Cook County, Illinois, from 1992 to 1999.[1]
Biography
White was born in Alton, Illinois. He attended Alabama State University, graduating in 1957 with his bachelor's degree.[1]
Immediately following graduation from Alabama State University in 1957, White entered the United States Army. He served in the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army for two years. In 1959, he founded the Jesse White Tumbling Team and played professional baseball with the Chicago Cubs organization, though he never appeared with the major league franchise. White was inducted into the Southwestern Athletic Conference Hall of Fame in May 1995 as well as the Chicago Public League Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame the following month. His alma mater, where he played both baseball and basketball, placed him in their Sports Hall of Fame in 1999.[1]

White ran for re-election of Secretary of State in 2014 elections.[3] He was unopposed for the Democratic nomination in the primary, and faced two challengers, Mike Webster (R) and Chris Michel (L), in the general election on November 4, 2014.
