Jessica Fleming is a working mother of four Forsyth County elementary school students. She’s currently serving on the Local School Council for Daves Creek Elementary, is the Secretary of the PTA, and has been a room parent for the past three years.

After graduating college, Jessica did a year of volunteer service through AmeriCorps, where she taught middle school in an underserved area. During that time, she also coached the school’s volleyball and basketball teams and led a lunchtime student book club.

Jessica and her family have lived in Forsyth County since 2015. Jessica is an award-winning writer and editor. She’s written for prestigious publications, including The Washington Post, The New York Times, Good Housekeeping, and Runner’s World.

She’s running to be the School Board Representative for District 2 because she’s seen the unparalleled education her children receive in Forsyth County and wants to keep the school district strong and fully funded. She supports teachers, believes learning about history is important even if it makes you uncomfortable, and that all students have a right to feel supported and seen while learning.
  • All students, no matter their differences, should feel safe, seen, and supported at school. And all families, regardless of their religion, culture, or family structure should feel at home in our school system.
  • We must respect and protect teachers, media specialists, guidance counselors, and other school staff. Teacher morale is low nationwide, including in Forsyth County. We must treat our educators well and pay them well to keep these hardworking, talented people in our school system and remain competitive with nearby districts.
  • We must ensure that all decisions we make focus on student outcomes. I want to maintain Forsyth County Schools' esteemed reputation, international accreditation, and advanced placement classes. Keeping our schools strong also keeps property values high and maintains our community's quality of life.
Keeping public funds in public education, financial transparency, school safety, and limiting censorship.
I'd like to be known as someone who always tries to advocate for others and who wants to make our community a better, kinder, more accepting place for everyone.
Students and their families, educators, and the community.
I've already attended every Board of Education meeting since I qualified to run for office in March. I often share recaps of the meetings on my social media pages to help parents understand what happens in those meetings. If I'm elected to the school board, I'd continue to help parents understand the issues by explaining them in easy-to-understand terms. I want to make sure the school board's decisions are transparent and demystify some of what the school board does so parents understand our decisions that impact their children's education.
Financial transparency is a key to government accountability and is absolutely necessary for a school board member.
