Jessica Moenning is a senior adviser to Governor of Nebraska Pete Ricketts (R). Moenning was named senior adviser in 2015.[1] In her role with the governor, Moenning provides advice and counsel on strategic planning, messaging and events scheduling with an eye fixed on the governor's stated priorities and goals.[1] Moenning is also principal with Bright Strategies, a strategic advising firm which she owns and operates with her husband, Norfolk city councilman Joshua Moenning.[2]

Career

In 2004, Jessica Moenning served as campaign manager for Republican Jeff Fortenberry's successful campaign for Nebraska's 1st Congressional District. From 2004 to 2006, she was executive director of the Republican Party of Nebraska.[3] In June 2006, she left the Nebraska GOP to become campaign manager for Republican Pete Ricketts' campaign for the United States Senate even though, according to Don Walton of the Lincoln Journal Star, "it was clear by that time that Ricketts could not win."[1]

In 2008, Moenning served on the winning Iowa caucus campaign team of Republican Mike Huckabee.[4] She advised Fortenberry's re-election campaigns in 2008 and 2010.[1][5] In 2012, she was a volunteer adviser to Republican Nebraska State Senator Deb Fischer's victorious campaign for United States Senate.[1]

In 2014, Jessica Moenning was a consultant to Republican Pete Ricketts' winning campaign for Governor of Nebraska. In January 2015, she became a senior adviser to Ricketts, though one privately paid by Ricketts himself; she is not a public employee. According to Omaha.com, Ricketts "sought advice from the state political accountability commission on how to structure Moenning’s job and comply with ethics laws." He stated that she "will focus on big-picture planning, strategic communications and setting up citizens advisory councils on issues such as manufacturing, corrections and social services."[6]

Moenning worked as communications consultant for Nebraskans for Jobs and Energy Independence, a group which has argued for construction of the Keystone XL pipeline. She announced plans "to continue her work with the pro-pipeline group and a couple of other nonprofit clients" although, according to Omaha.com, "she said she would not be a lobbyist in her new role" with Gov. Ricketts.[6]
