I am a born and bred rural American, having spent my childhood and young adulthood in several southern states. I was born to teenage parents on a Naval base in Louisiana. My dad was then stationed in Mississippi where my younger sister was born. I attended rural schools across the south before landing in Arkansas where I finished high school. I received my BA in English from the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith and my MA in Teaching from the University of Arkansas at Monticello. I am a tenured American Literature teacher with 16 years of experience and I planned to spend my life teaching, but after the 2016 election, things changed. I had to do something. I am a wife and mom and a fighter from birth–I had to be. I see the corruption all around me and how decades of governance under the Missouri supermajority has harmed my community and my neighbors. I understand that those of us in the middle are squeezed by the redistribution of wealth from the middle class to the wealthy and corporations–a reverse Robin Hood. I will listen to and work for all Missourians.
  • Healthcare-Quality, accessible, and affordable healthcare is every Missourian’s right. But every year Missouri families must make increasingly difficult decisions for how they prioritize spending on prescription drugs and medical bills over the basic costs of living. At the same time, the Republican-led House has left millions of federal dollars on the table meant for expanding healthcare access to Missourians. Their inaction means less healthy communities, higher premiums for those with coverage, and the loss of hospitals, especially in rural areas. I believe all Missourians have a right to healthcare and a right to go to the doctor when they are sick and not be bankrupted in the process. Missouri should fund Medicaid Expansion (as the v
  • Education-I am a veteran teacher with sixteen years of classroom experience. I know that the best indicator for student success is a well-qualified teacher. I also know that our rural schools see a high degree of teacher and administrator turnover due to low pay–some of the best teachers start in our districts only to leave for better pay within a few years. Our rural schools are breeding grounds for training new administrators who soon leave to find better pay. My goals if elected are: — Provide highly competitive pay for classroom teachers — Fully-fund a fair formula to included bussing for our rural districts — Ensure the community provides the resources to protect and enrich students when they are not on campus — I will fight to kee
  • Jobs-A strong economy is one that works for everyone. As your state rep, I’ll fight for those who truly build up our economy—our workers—for the wages, benefits, and protections they deserve. I’ll support investments in educational opportunities to support a 21st century workforce. I’ll work for policies that support local businesses who provide good jobs in our state and keep our economy growing. And I’ll work to bring new businesses here that want to capitalize on our skilled Missouri workforce and quality of life. But I’ll always put workers’ interests before the special interests of large corporations.
