Interview with The Baltimore Sun

Sjoberg highlighted the following themes in an interview with The Baltimore Sun on March 18, 2024. The questions from The Baltimore Sun are bolded and Sjoberg's responses follow below.[1]

Why are you running for office?
The reason why I am running for this office is because I am concerned about my children’s and other children’s futures, wanting to make a difference and impact on peoples lives, listening to the Will of the people, to fight for women’s and abortion rights, helping legal , undocumented immigrants, and their US born children, supporting and protecting our military veterans and their families, creating a fundamental healthcare system for both Medicare and Medicaid recipients, helping small local businesses in the surrounding areas of Catonsville, Reisterstown, Towson and Westminster, making our borders stronger and to fight other agendas that we will face as a nation together. I personally want to break the barrier between both parties, and bring justice for all Americans!

Do you believe, as President Joe Biden has said, that “democracy is on the ballot” and, if so, in what way?
Yes, I do believe what President Joe Biden quoted, because if certain candidates are elected it could change how our country operates and it takes away the freedoms and rights from the American’s.

Will you accept the presidential election result once the totals have been certified by the states and any legal challenges adjudicated?
Absolutely, yes I will accept the results.

Do you support additional assistance for Ukraine’s military forces two years into Russia’s invasion?
Yes, I would want to support Ukraine, but we need to have Ukraine pay it back.

Should the United States be speaking out more clearly, as Maryland Sen. Chris Van Hollen has suggested, about civilian casualties in Gaza?
Yes, because they are killing innocent people.

Should Congress act to protect abortion rights following the Supreme Court’s 2022 Dobbs decision?
Yes

Constituents are increasingly expressing concern about suburban crime. What more can the federal government do to help?
To provide more financial support to purchase cameras in neighborhoods, to have additional patrols, and to have more street lights in neighborhoods as well.

How would you rate outgoing Rep. C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger’s performance over 21 years in office? And how would you compare or contrast it with your approach?
I feel that Rep. Ruppersberger has done a wonderful job to our district. I will continue to do the same thing and work harder to make voices heard and not silenced.[2]
