Jessie Liu was a member of Donald Trump's presidential transition team, a group of advisors tasked with recommending presidential appointments for the incoming administration.[1]
In March 2019, President Trump chose Liu to serve as the associate attorney general in the U.S. Department of Justice.[2] Liu withdrew from consideration for the nomination on March 28, 2019.[3]
Career
In 2019, Liu was selected to serve as the associate attorney general.[2] In 2017, Liu was confirmed as the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia. She took office on September 24, 2017. She previously worked as an assistant U.S. attorney in the District of Columbia from 2002 to 2006. She then served in several positions in the U.S. Justice Department, including as deputy assistant attorney general in the Civil Rights Division, counsel to the deputy attorney general for national security matters, and deputy chief of staff for the National Security Division. She also worked as deputy general counsel at the U.S. Department of the Treasury.[4]
Liu was a law clerk to the Hon. Carolyn Dineen King of the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit in Houston, Texas.[4]
Liu received her A.B., summa cum laude, from Harvard University in 1995 and her J.D. from Yale Law School in 1998.[4]
Donald Trump presidential transition team, 2016-2017
Liu was a member of Donald Trump's presidential transition team in his first presidential term. The transition team was a group of around 100 aides, policy experts, government affairs officials, and former government officials who were tasked with vetting, interviewing, and recommending individuals for top cabinet and staff roles in Trump's administration. She was part of the Department of Justice landing team.
