An effort to recall Jill Dabbs from her position as mayor of Bryant, Arkansas, was launched in January 2012.[1] The recall effort was later abandoned.[2]
Reasons for recall
Bryant Alderman Adrian Henley organized the recall effort. He said that Dabbs supported an alcohol tax to fund a police fleet. Dabbs said this accusation was false. Dabbs was also accused of initiating a 12% water and sewer rate hike. Dabbs said this was false, and that there had actually been a 9% rate increase, which was set by the previous mayor. Records showed that 61 workers left city hall during Dabbs' first year in office. In 2011, Dabbs went before the Arkansas Ethics Commission for allegedly giving herself a pay raise. She was given a letter of caution for what was called an "unintentional violation."[1]
Path to the ballot
Recall organizers needed to collect 2,400 valid signatures of registered voters in order to force a recall election to take place in November 2012.[3] Sufficient signatures were not collected, and the recall effort did not move forward.[2]
