Campaign themes

2017

Gaebler's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[2]

Safe neighborhoods

  • Excerpt: "Neighborhoods are safer when they are strong. We must work to promote connectivity between our neighbors while also working to reduce emergency response times, and protect our homes with a voter-approved stormwater solution."

Local business

  • Excerpt: "Local business is the heartbeat of our Colorado Springs economy. Overburdensome regulations and taxes can get in the way of business growth. We need a vibrant downtown that is welcoming to a young, educated workforce. Jill listens and responds to local business needs."

Fiscal responsibility

  • Excerpt: "Your tax dollars are hard-earned and need to be spent wisely. Jill is a fiscal watchdog, asking tough questions about transparency, efficiency, and accountability. Her years as an Air Force contracting officer, charter school founder, and non-profit director have prepared her for tight budgets and taught her how to weed out unnecessary and duplicative services."

Parks and open spaces

  • Excerpt: "The Pikes Peak region is home to some of the most beautiful natural parks in the nation. These resources must be preserved for everyone to enjoy. Jill realizes their value to our families, local economy, and history. She will protect our natural assets and ensure taxpayer dollars are spent sensibly for maintenance and upkeep of our parks and open spaces."

Responsible growth

  • Excerpt: "Growth is inevitable, but responsible growth happens when we ensure infrastructure requirements are achievable and sustainable. Growth subsidized by taxpayers or, in the case of utilities, ratepayers, can lead to burdensome debt and unsustainable sprawl for our City."

Utilities governance

  • Excerpt: "An appointed Colorado Springs Utilities Board is absolutely the WRONG choice for ratepayers. A municipally owned utility whose board is appointed by a strong mayor would vest all the power of our government in one person without any check or balance. Jill will continue to fight the special interest groups who are pushing for this change to strip ratepayers of their right to hold their leaders accountable."
