Biography
Johnson is an associate professor of education at Drake University. She serves on the education cabinet of the United Way of Central Iowa. She also serves on the TLS advisory committee for the West Des Moines school district. Johnson obtained her bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Iowa. She went on the earn her master's degree in early childhood education and family support systems from the same school. Later, she earned her doctorate degree from the University of Minnesota.[1]

Four of the seven seats on the West Des Moines Community Schools School Board were up for election on September 8, 2015. The available seats represented the district at-large.
Incumbents Milton Cole and Andi Lipman were defeated in the election. Incumbent David Brown retained his seat. Candidates Liz Cox, Melinda Dunnwald and Jill Johnson won the seats of Cole and Lipman as well as the open seat left by incumbent Kevin Carroll who did not run for re-election. Candidates Michele Dahlen and Judy Jesse were also defeated in the election.[2][3][4]

Funding
Johnson reported no contributions or expenditures to the Iowa Ethics and Campaign Disclosure Board in the election.[5] Any candidate spending, receiving or incurring debt in the amount of $1,000 or less was not required to file the disclosure form for campaign finances.[6]
