As your Island County Commissioner for the last 12 years, I’ve worked tirelessly for Whidbey and Camano Islands. During this time, we have invested in affordable housing, engaged in economic development planning, built a mental health stabilization facility, and made significant investments in law enforcement. As a former Executive Director of the Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce, I’ve walked alongside our business community, championed community causes, listened to local voices, and invested in building a solid community.
  • I bring local knowledge and hands on experience to work for you each day. My goal is to make sure you that Island County is always a place you are proud to call home.

The Chosen by Chaim Potok is a story about a brilliant boy raised in silence by his Father because his Father wanted him to hear the world's cries. It reminds us of the importance of compassion, and from a government perspective, it teaches us to hear beyond the talking and the noise and listen to what is not being said. It's a beautiful book.
Integrity, honesty, local knowledge, and an open mind.
A county commissioner is the CEO of the county government. An effective Commissioner needs to have a combination of policy and administrative skills. The ability to manage people, hold teams accountable for outcomes, inspire creative solutions, understand and monitor the budget, make wise programming investments of public resources, and stay connected with the community to make the right decisions on their behalf. You must be both a leader and an implementer because the county government is where ideas are put into action.
Jimmy Carter said we couldn't have Christmas lights (I'm not even sure that's true, but I have a distinct memory of not being allowed to put them up because the President said so.) and the Iran Hostage situation. I was about 10.
