“	Constituent Services: Our elected officials spend 30-70% of their time in office fundraising for the next election! (you can confirm that statistic here, here, or here) That is a pretty incredible statistic because that means that they have much less time to do the work they were elected to. It also means that if they are soliciting campaign contributions that they are not talking with the people they have been elected to represent (i.e. you and me). Combating Climate Change: Global warming is real.On 20 January 2016 scientists reported that 2015 was, by far, the hottest year in the historical record, breaking the previous mark set in 2014. Nine of the warmest years on record have taken place since 2000). So,with such overwhelming proof of global warming, I believe we need to wean ourselves off fossil fuels (and the sooner the better). Ethics: Dick Armey, Tom Daschle, Tom Foley and Trent Lott were once all ranked among Congress' most powerful members. Today, they share another distinction along with 423 other former senators and congressmen: They're lobbyists (or "senior advisors" performing very similar work). These former members of Congress now receive handsome compensation from corporations and special interests as they attempt to influence the very federal government in which they used to serve. Serving in the Congress should not be an apprenticeship for your next better paying job. It should be public service. Income Inequality: To increase good paying jobs for the middle class I would put people to work repairing our crumbling infrastructure. Our infrastructure is collapsing, and we all know it. Every day, we drive over bridges that are in disrepair and on roads with unforgiving potholes. We rank 16th in the world in terms of broadband Internet access, which has serious implications for commerce, education, telemedicine, public safety and world competitiveness. The problem is that for many years Congress has underfunded the maintenance of our nation's infrastructure. Social Security: Social Security is now, and will be in the future, extremely important to most Americans over the age of 62.	”
