I am a two term State Representative, Vice Chair of the Environment and Agriculture Committee, Army veteran, business owner, educator, husband and father. I believe in creating opportunity through excellent education, less government, and a thriving economy. As an outdoorsman, I know the importance of being a good steward of our natural resources.
  • I am committed to improving the lives of NH Citizens better by empowering businesses and reducing red tape.
  • I am dedicated to maximizing our children's potential by giving parents choice on how their child is educated, fostering healthy lifestyles and fighting against drug abuse.
  • As a veteran, I am focused on protecting the country for which I fought. There are several areas that are under attack. As such, I will support veteran's issues, ensure free and fair elections, preserve the second amendment and protect the environment.
As the vice-chair of the NH House Committee on Environment and Agriculture, I am personally focused on environmental and agriculture issues. I am passionate about taking care of veteran's, enhancing economic opportunity, and improving education opportunity and quality for all of our children.
I look up to many people with whom I have served. My first and probably most influential mentor is my first battalion commander whose integrity, honesty, dedication, and toughness impressed me as a junior officer. I have always tried to emulate his positive leadership and ability to inspire people to maximize their potential. He was able to motivate people to perform well beyond their perceived limits.
Elected officials should be servant leaders who place the welfare of their constituents over their own. Honesty, integrity, and dedication are paramount attributes to effective government leaders. Effective officials master the ability to listen attentively, work cooperatively, and look for common ground in order to craft effective legislation that solves critical issues. Representatives should respond to their constituent's concerns quickly and be open to opposing views. Passion, a positive attitude, and motivation are needed to create the positive environment needed to pass effective legislation.
I strive to be an honest leader of integrity who treats people with respect and dignity. I try to listen intently, respond quickly to constituent issues, and work with others to craft effective legislation. As a leader in the Army, the qualities of duty, honor, country were instilled in the way I conduct myself everyday.
The core responsibilities are to listen to constituents, vote your conscience, respond quickly to questions, and participate to the maximum extent.
I would like to be known as a leader who cared for his constituents and worked everyday to improve the lives of Granite Staters.
I joined the Army after I graduated from West Point in 1982. I served as an officer in the Army for 30 years.
"Once and Eagle" by Anton Myrer is my favorite book. The book relates the story of Sam Damon who is a courageous and dynamic leader who served at all levels in the Army. It contrasts the his positive leadership with that of Courtney Massengale whose demonstrated self-centered leadership. The lessons described in this book have inspired me to maximize my potential as a leader.
I would want to be Sam Damon from the book "Once and Eagle." His dedication to duty, courageous leadership, and ability to earn respect through positive actions provide excellent examples of how to excel in positions of responsibility.
"Satisfaction" up by the Rolling Stones.
I work to improve my patience. I tend to see things that need to get done and work hard to fix them. The pace of change gets frustrating for me which requires greater patience than is natural for me.
I believe that the legislature should work with the governor in order to enact effective legislation. This means that communications should be open and both sides should be willing to compromise and look for innovative solutions to difficult problems. The one thing they both have in common is that the voters will hold them accountable at the ballot box.
Over the next decade we must improve the health of all citizens. Reducing drug addiction, improving childhood health, and providing access to quality healthcare will all contribute to enhancing the wellbeing of all Granite Staters. With a healthy population, the State will continue to be a tremendous place to live.
Prior experience in government is not required but helps legislators understand how to get things done within the system and build the relationships that are necessary to solve problems.
Building solid relationships are the single most critical aspect being an effective legislator. Legislation is by its nature a cooperative exercise. The trust, cooperation, and understanding developed between legislators leads to well crafted bills that solve problems and improve conditions in the state.
I admire Teddy Roosevelt because of his tenacious attitude, ability to build effective teams, dedication to environmental protection, and fearless dedication to excellence.
A constituent traces his roots in Antrim back to the Civil War. He relates the story of his families exploits during the war between the states. He is a stalwart in the community whose community pride, positive leadership, and earned respect resonate with my desire to be part of a small town community which is focused on individual responsibility and taking care of each other rather than personal entitlements and what the government owes.
The legislature has to responsibility to oversee emergency actions. This oversight requirement has to be balanced with executive office duties which require immediate action and response. Developing a positive relationship between the executive and legislative branches is necessary to build the trust necessary to execute these, sometimes competing, responsibilities.
I would like to introduce a bill that reduces the threat of drug addiction in the state.
I am the vice chair of the NH House Environment and Agriculture Committee which is my primary focus. As a certified New Hampshire fishing guide who owns a wilderness guide company, the Resources Recreation and Development and Fish and Game Committees also interest me. As a veteran and leadership coach at the Dartmouth College Business School, Tuck, I am keenly interested in the Fish and Game and Education Committees.
I believe that the state government financial process should be transparent and that government agencies should be held accountable for their actions when executing the approved budget.
My experience is that ballot initiatives often fall prey to special interest groups that tend to confuse the issue with distorted facts and falsehoods; therefore, I think ballot initiatives would not be good for New Hampshire.

Colonel (Retired) Jim Creighton is the Chief Executive Officer for Eagle Point Global Solutions, LLC which is an organization dedicated to developing leadership skills and helping to resolve some of the world's most difficult challenges. He has coordinated and executed high level discussions in Northern Iraq, Russia, China, Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Turkey, Berlin, and many other locations. He aims to develop locally derived practical solutions to difficult problems. He also co-founded Ursa Major Northeast Guides to bring wilderness adventures and leadership experiences to veterans, youth, and others. Jim was elected as the Supervisor of the Checklist in Antrim, NH.

Jim and his wife Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Tamasine Wood-Creighton chose to settle in Antrim New Hampshire in 2015 after 30 years in the Army. New Hampshire's independent and self-reliant people, healthy business environment, natural beauty, and Live Free or Die attitude were some of the attributes that led to a tremendous decision to settle in New Hampshire. Jim and Tamasine have two daughters, Dr. Brianna Creighton and Chelsea Creighton.

Jim is excited to use his extensive leadership experience, team building expertise, and problem-solving skills to help solve the most complex challenges facing New Hampshire as the State Representative from District 38.

  • I am committed to making the lives of Granite State citizens better.
  • I believe in creating opportunity through excellent education, less government, and a thriving economy.
  • I am dedicated to finding ways to make health care & insurance less expensive.
I am dedicated to preserving the advantages that New Hampshire citizens expect. I have had the honor of talking to many new families and long-time residents in the district. The themes and stories are very similar. Most mention the low taxes, minimal regulation, 'Live Free or Die' culture, and caring rural people as primary motivators that encompass the "New Hampshire Advantage." I am passionate about sustaining the culture that these great citizens value.
The most important characteristics to an effective legislature are honesty and integrity; energy and passion; the ability to hear what people are saying; and a passion to do the right thing and get things done that help the people you represent.
I am a leader who has succeeded in many different challenging positions. I have built organizations from the ground up and fought with them successfully in combat. I understand how to build relationships in order to completely understand issues and build consensus around effective courses of action. I know how to make difficult decisions in a complex and ambiguous environment. I am a proven leader who has the passion and drive to get positive things done that will make the lives of people in my district better.
I remember the national pride and unity surrounding Neil Armstrong's "giant step for mankind" when he walked on the moon during the Apollo 11 space mission on 20 July 1969.
I joined the Army as a Cadet at West Point in 1978. I had an amazing 30 year career as a commissioned officer where I served in 31 different jobs, lived in six states and 5 different countries, and served in numerous combat zones. After serving my last two years in Afghanistan, commanding a multi-national NATO brigade in Uruzgan I retired and began my transition to life as a civilian.
My favorite book is John Adams by David McCullough. McCullough describes in detail the challenges facing our Founding Fathers as they crafted the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. As a central figure and outspoken statesman, President Adams had to learn how to compromise in order to achieve his goals. He developed a deep relationship with President Jefferson that enjoyed incredible closeness at times and endured periods of intense animosity. The incredible dedication and genius of these men inspires me to uphold the standards and concepts they created over 200 years ago. The fact that both Adams and Jefferson died on the 4th of July, 1826 is an amazing fact in American history.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in New Hampshire

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.

Click here for an overview of legislative scorecards in all 50 states.  To contribute to the list of New Hampshire scorecards, email suggestions to editor@ballotpedia.org.
