Jim Earp

James Hibbert "Jim" Earp is a former Brevard County judge of the 18th Judicial Circuit Court in Florida. He served on the court from 2007 to 2020. Earp was first elected to this court without opposition in 2006 and took office on Jan. 2, 2007.[1][2][3][4] Earp retired from the bench in February 2020.[5]
Education
Earp received his B.A. degree from the University of South Florida (College of Language & Literature) in 1974 and his J.D. degree from the University of Florida College of Law in 1976.[1]
Career
Earp began his career in 1977 with the Office of the Public Defender in Jacksonville, Fla. The following year, he joined the Law Office of Jackson, Earp, and Jackson. From 1983 to 1987, he worked for the State Attorney of the 5th Circuit. He then joined the 18th Circuit State Attorney's office, where he served until 1990. In October of 1990, he started his own law practice in Melbourne, Fla. In March of 1991, he joined the firm of Cianfrogna, Telfer, Reda, Faherty, and Anderson, P.A. He then left that position in February of 2001 to return to the Office of the State Attorney for the 18th Circuit. At the time of his election to the circuit court in 2006, he was serving as chief prosecutor at that office.[1]
2012 election
Earp ran for re-election in the primary on August 14, 2012. He defeated Matt Aungst with 69.5% of the vote.[4][6][7]
