Jim Hansen was the Area 4 representative on the Rapid City Area school board in South Dakota. First elected in 2011, Hansen was unopposed in the general election on June 3, 2014 and was re-elected by default. He did not file for re-election in 2017 and his term ended on July 18, 2017.

Hansen's professional experience includes serving as a member of the Rapid City Police Department and as the school liason officer for Rapid City Central High School. He has also owned and operated a security company, served as vice president of the South Dakota Fraternal Order of Police, and as President of FOP Lodge 2 in Rapid City.[1]
