I have resided in District 6 of Mecklenburg County with my wife and two daughters for 24 years.

During my time here, I have actively participated in the community as a member of several boards and committees, including as a past chairman of the City of Charlotte’s Privatization and Competition Advisory Committee, a member of the “Charlotte Moves” Mobility Task Force, the UNC Charlotte College of Computing and Informatics Dean’s Advisory Board, the Charlotte Catholic High School Foundation board of directors, and as a former president of the Charlotte Chapter of the Society for Information Management.

Professionally, I founded and runs Equals 11, a technology consulting firm.
  • Fiscal responsibility: The most recent budget included a property tax increase above revenue neutral, with an effective rate of increase that was much higher for most homeowners. A priority of the Commission is maintaining home affordability. Yet for those who are not homeowners, these tax increases are simply passed down as a portion of rental fees. Our government leaders must plan more strategically.
  • Accountability: The Commission recently introduced a $2.5B bond referendum for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. While we all want to support our students, we should first hold CMS accountable for their performance and current budget management. Additionally, in my discussions with the residents of District 6, I’ve found that very few understand that this bond can effectively be increased to more than $4B without voter approval. We’re borrowing from our future taxes to pay for the unclear initiatives of an entity that has consistently exhibited poor performance. We must find ways to hold those organizations the County is funding accountable for their actions and results.
  • Collaboration: When I speak with the people of District 6, I hear that they want a commissioner who will work for their constituents while collaborating with the other members of the County Commission and the various governmental entities that represent them. Throughout my professional career, I’ve held positions requiring me to build and work as a team member, while serving clients and internal customers. I will do the same here.
When elected, I would like to serve on the Economic Development and Intergovernmental Relations Committees.
The core principles required for an elected official are the same you should expect of any leader.

- Integrity
- Accountability
- Empathy
- Collaboration

- Transparency
As a husband, parent, volunteer, and business leader, I've been responsible for serving others, making difficult decisions, participating in planning, delivering what was agreed upon, and accountable to a budget.
Mint Hill Mayor, Brad Simmons
Former CMS Board Member, Sean Strain
