Jim Martin (Minnesota)
Jim Martin was an independent candidate for District 56A of the Minnesota House of Representatives in the November 2, 2010, state legislative election.[1]
Biography
Jim Martin lives in Lake Elmo, Minnesota. He earned a bachelor's degree in computer science. Martin's career experience includes working as a computer programmer and technician and as a residential home building contractor. He has also worked in landscaping and irrigation installation and repair. An Eagle Scout, Martin has been affiliated with the National Eagle Scout Association.[2]
Elections
2010
Martin ran for election to the District 56A seat in 2010. Because he was nominated by the citizens of the district, Martin had no primary opposition. He was defeated by Kathy Lohmer (R) in the general election on November 2, 2010.[3]
Campaign themes
2010
Martin's platform included the following three points.
- State legislators should not be able to effectively set their own compensation[4];
- Unelected bodies should not be able to levy taxes[5]; or force the hand of elected officials[6]; and
- Decisions to levy a tax should be ratified by a vote on whom the tax is imposed[7].
