Four of the seven seats on the Capistrano Unified School District board of trustees were up for by-district general election on November 8, 2016. In her bid for re-election, Trustee Area 1 incumbent Amy Hanacek defeated challenger Wendy Shrove. Trustee Area 2 incumbent Jim Reardon also won re-election, defeating challenger Gould Workman. Incumbent John Alpay did not file to run for re-election to the Trustee Area 3 seat, leaving it open for a newcomer. Candidates Laura Ferguson and Patricia Holloway ran for the seat, and Holloway was elected to the board. The Trustee Area 5 race featured incumbent Gary Pritchard and challenger Jake Vollebregt. Pritchard won re-election to another term.[3][4]
