In deciding to run, Van Houten declared, “The people of Delaware deserve effective and efficient government. I’ve decided to run because I have the business experience and fresh new ideas that will restore integrity to the office.”[1]

Van Houten was running for Delaware Insurance Commissioner in 2012. He was set to run against Benjamin Mobley in the Republican primary on September 11, 2012 but withdrew from the race prior to the filing deadline.
