July 2, 2015
By Emily Aubert
Former U.S. Senator Jim Webb (D) announced his candidacy for president this afternoon in an email to supporters. He wrote, "We need a President who understands leadership, who has a proven record of actual accomplishments, who can bring about bipartisan solutions, who can bring people from both sides to the table to get things done.” Webb is the fifth Democrat to enter the presidential race.[1]
Webb represented Virginia for one term in the U.S. Senate from 2007 to 2012. A 1968 graduate of the Naval Academy and Marine veteran, Webb also acted as secretary of the Navy from 1987 to 1988 under President Ronald Reagan.[1][2]
