Jim Wood is a dedicated and resilient individual shaped by his diverse life experiences. Born in agricultural California in 1983, Jim's early life was marked by frequent relocations due to his mother's career in the hotel industry. Despite these challenges, he developed a strong work ethic and a deep commitment to family, values instilled in him by his parents and grandparents.

At 18, Jim joined the U.S. Navy, serving as an Aviation Structural Mechanic aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln during significant military operations like Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. His time in the Navy fostered a sense of duty, discipline, and leadership that continues to guide him.

After his military service, Jim pursued various careers, eventually finding success as an entrepreneur. He founded several businesses, including a fabrication shop and a thriving industrial hemp company. His entrepreneurial spirit, combined with his adaptability, helped him overcome setbacks like the 2008 financial crisis and build successful ventures.

Now settled in Colorado with his wife, Mallery, Jim continues to expand his business interests while remaining deeply committed to his community. He is running for the 5th District seat on the Adams County Commission, where he aims to bring attention and support to often-overlooked areas. Jim's approach to leadership is grounded in hard work, integrity, and a strong desire to serve others.
  • Infrastructure is very Important to me and here is why: Maintaining and investing in infrastructure is vital for a county's economic growth, public safety, and quality of life. Well-maintained roads and facilities attract businesses, create jobs, and enhance competitiveness. Safe, reliable infrastructure prevents accidents and health hazards, ensuring public safety. Investments also improve daily life by providing clean water, efficient transportation, and accessible public spaces. Additionally, modern infrastructure promotes sustainability and resilience, while proactive maintenance saves long-term costs and keeps essential services running smoothly. This is an area that I see being neglected as a resident of Adams County.
  • As not only a business owner but a land owner as well in Adams County I am Passionate about Property rights and here is why: Property owners' rights are crucial for county residents as they protect individual freedoms and investments. These rights ensure that property owners can use, develop, and enjoy their land without undue interference, preserving personal autonomy. They also provide financial security, allowing owners to build wealth and pass assets to future generations. Protecting property rights fosters community stability by encouraging responsible land use and development, contributing to a vibrant local economy. Ultimately, these rights are fundamental to maintaining residents' trust in fair and just governance.
  • Water is instrumental to the county and here is why: Water infrastructure is crucial for both farmers and residents in a county. Farmers rely on dependable water systems for irrigation and livestock, which are essential for crop production and agricultural sustainability. For residents, effective water infrastructure ensures access to clean drinking water, proper sanitation, and fire protection. Additionally, investing in water storage capacity supports future growth by providing reserves for expanding agricultural needs and increasing population demands. This comprehensive approach to water management underpins public health, economic stability, and community resilience, making it vital for both current needs and future development.
I’m passionate about policies that limit government power and safeguard individual freedoms. By keeping government authority in check, we ensure that our personal liberties are protected and prevent overreach. It’s also essential that our policies are designed to serve the entire community, not just select groups. This approach promotes fairness and inclusivity, ensuring that everyone’s needs are addressed and that our rights and freedoms are upheld for all residents.
As a county commissioner, my core responsibilities would include:

Legislative Oversight: I would focus on setting policies and making decisions that shape county laws and regulations, ensuring they reflect the needs and values of our community.

Budget Management: Managing the county’s budget is crucial. I would work to allocate funds effectively, ensuring resources are used efficiently for essential services and infrastructure.

Infrastructure and Public Services: I would prioritize maintaining and improving our county’s infrastructure—like roads, parks, and public buildings—and ensure high-quality services in law enforcement, public health, and emergency management.

Economic Development: Supporting local businesses and attracting new investments would be a key focus. I would develop strategies to boost economic growth and enhance our county’s financial health.

Community Representation: I would serve as a liaison between residents and the county government, addressing your concerns and making sure your voices are heard in decision-making.

Strategic Planning: Planning for the county’s future is essential. I would work on long-term strategies for growth, land use, and sustainability to ensure a thriving community.

Intergovernmental Relations: Collaborating with state and federal agencies is important. I would work to align our county’s needs with broader regional efforts and ensure we have the support needed for our initiatives.
My very first job was gate tending on a dairy, and as you can imagine, it was as dull as it sounds. I had to make sure the cows stayed in the pens while equipment came and went to load manure for the fields. Although it was a short stint, it’s a fond memory for me, especially because I got to work alongside my dad and the company he worked for.
If I could be any fictional character, I’d choose Captain Picard. I’d love nothing more than to travel the stars and experience the wonders of the universe firsthand.
Work-life balance has always been a challenge for me. I'm a very driven individual and feel a strong sense of purpose to improve the world and leave it better than I found it. I’m also dedicated to creating a positive legacy and ensuring my children are set up for success.
A businessman can be an ideal fit for a county commissioner for several reasons:

Financial Acumen: With experience in managing budgets and financial planning, a businessman brings strong financial skills to oversee county budgets and ensure efficient use of taxpayer funds.

Strategic Thinking: Business leaders are adept at strategic planning and long-term vision, skills that are essential for developing and implementing effective policies and growth strategies for the county.

Problem-Solving Skills: Entrepreneurs are skilled at identifying problems, developing solutions, and adapting to challenges. These problem-solving abilities are valuable for addressing community issues and improving county services.

Economic Development: A businessman’s experience in building and managing enterprises equips them to promote economic growth, attract investments, and support local businesses, driving job creation and economic vitality.

Efficiency and Innovation: Business professionals often focus on efficiency and innovation. Their approach can streamline county operations, improve service delivery, and bring new ideas to enhance community well-being.

Networking and Relationships: Business leaders typically have extensive networks and experience in collaboration. This can be beneficial in fostering partnerships with other government entities, businesses, and community organizations.

Accountability and Results-Oriented: Businesspeople are accustomed to being accountable for their performance and results. This results-oriented mindset can drive effective governance and ensure that the county’s goals and initiatives are met.
Why is 6 afraid of 7? Because 7 8 9. Why did 7 eat 9 though? Because its 3 squared meals.
Complete Dad joke but its my favorite.
