2016

Patelis' campaign website highlighted the following issues:[9]

  • Economy: I am committed to eliminating the barriers to economic development and fostering a business-friendly environment through less government and a more open marketplace to hold business.
  • Social Security: I support reducing state taxes on Social Security benefits. Montana is one of the 10 least tax-friendly states for retirees.
  • Constitutional rights: I oppose any restrictions on the type or number of firearms any law-abiding citizen may own or possess. I am a member of the NRA, and as a 38-year law enforcement officer I support the right of the people from interference by the federal government to bear arms.
  • Taxes: Taxes on every level should be low, broad-based and easily understood. I firmly believe that taxes should not be used to redistribute wealth, but to provide necessary services to the people that are paying taxes.[10]

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Montana

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
