Womack formerly worked as an anesthesiologist. He retired to serve in public office, first as the President of the Detroit Board of Education, and later, as a State Representative.[1]

Womack won for re-election to the District 7 seat in 2010. He defeated LaShon Scott and Al Williams in the August 3 Democratic primary. He faced Debra Duren (R) and Derek Grigsby (G) in the general election on November 2, 2010.[4][5]
