Brooks was targeted for recall over her opposition to the addition of a one-mile development setback added to the town's quarry rules. Brooks was also accused of violating local ethics guidelines. "There was a public meeting where no public access was allowed, but she asked pointed questions of Hughes Brothers while the rest of the townspeople — the voters and taxpayers — could not," said Ralph McLeod.[1]
Response by Joan Brooks
Brooks defended her position on the development setback, saying she visited a quarry run by the business in another town and saw no problems. "There was no dust, no flying rocks and no radon flying over to get me. I didn’t get silicosis," she said.[1]
Path to the ballot
