Hello, I'm Joan Farrell. I am honored to be the Democratic candidate for Tennessee House District 26. I am the middle of three children, from a small town in Pennsylvania, where my father worked for 37 years under a United Steel Worker contract. I'm a proud USW affiliate member today.

My education includes a BSBA in Finance from John Carroll University, Cleveland, Ohio; an MBA from Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio; and several Education classes at Lee University and Chattanooga State. In my career, I've worn many hats, including Bank Examiner, Accounting Manager, Food Stamp Counselor, Teacher (High School Business Education and Head Start Early Childhood), Census Field Rep, and others. My little terrier Pixie gave joy as a Pet Therapist for many Hospice patients, including veterans at the VA Hospital in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Hixson has been home for the last 15 years. Before moving to Hixson, I lived in Ohio, New Mexico, Georgia, Alabama, and Pennsylvania. Every community has its pros and cons, but I love Hixson, Hamilton County, and Tennessee. I am committed to making it a place that everyone loves, where everyone has access to their unalienable rights; life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
  • I support Tennessee families and am dedicated to protecting workers' rights. Any Tennessean working 40 hours a week should be able to afford to pay their bills and provide for their families.
  • I support healthcare reform in Tennessee, including expanding Medicaid and ACA, reproductive rights, and vaccine transparency.
  • I support education reform in Tennessee, including expanding the current Drive to 55 initiative to include up to 4 years of tuition-free state university, fully funding Tennessee public schools, and abolishing high-stakes standardized testing.
In addition to my dedication to a living wage, healthcare, and education for all Tennesseans, I am also passionate about environmental conservation, animal welfare, and the strengthening of Tennessee communities.
