Joan Menard
Joan Menard (b. September 6, 1935) was a Democratic member of the Massachusetts State Senate. She represented the First Bristol and Plymouth district from 2000 to 2011.
Menard began her political career in 1976 by joining the Democratic State Committee and in 1978 by becoming a representative for the Massachusetts House of Representatives. In 1991 she became the Assistant Majority Whip for the Massachusetts House of Representatives. A year later, she became the Majority Whip until 1996. In 1999, her service as a representative ended and a year later Menard became a senator for the Massachusetts State Senate and still serves in this regard, along with her responsibilities as the Assistant Majority Leader for the state of Massachusetts and continuing to hold her position in the Democratic State Committee.
Menard began her professional experience as a School Administrator for the town of Somerset. In 1964, she worked as an elementary school teacher in the same town until 1974. In that year, she worked as director of special education until 1979.
Menard earned her Bachelor's degree at Bridgewater State College in 1967. In 1971, she obtained her Master's degree in education at the same institution. In 1979, Menard acquired her CAGS at the Boston College Doctoral Program. At some point, she earned her MEd at Boston University.[1]

Joan Menard has been a member of the following organizations: the Association of State Democratic Chairs, the Business and Professional Women's Club, the Council of State Governments, the Five Cents Savings Bank, the Katie Brown Fund, the League of Women Voters, the Massachusetts Teenage Pregnancy Prevention Board, the National Organization for Women, the New England Board of Higher Education, the Southeastern Massachusetts Labor Center, Steppingstone, and the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth organization.

Menard served on two non-legislative committees; the Massachusetts Women's Legislative Caucus and the Women's Political Caucus.

On November 4, 2008, Menard won re-election for the Senate election for the First Bristol and Norfolk district.[2] In this election she raised $257,046-; of that total $226,459- (90.5%) was from in state contributions and $23,700 (9.5%) was from out of state contributions.[3]

On November 7, 2006, Menard won re-election for the Senate election for the First Bristol and Norfolk district.[4] In this election she raised $295,724-; of that total $254,387- (88.8%) was from in state contributions and $32,200 (11.2%) was from out of state contributions.[5]

On November 2, 2004, Menard won re-election for the Senate election for the First Bristol and Norfolk district.[6] In this election she raised $232,760-; of that total $191,660- (90.1%) was from in state contributions and $21,100 (9.9%) was from out of state contributions.[7]
