Candidate Connection

Jocelyn Smith participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on April 9, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Jocelyn Smith's responses follow below.[1]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1) creating jobs and opportunity

2) reducing the size and intrusiveness of government
3) passing a tax-limitation balanced budget amendment[2][3]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

expanding the protections of pro-life and getting government off the backs and out of the pockets of the people of OhioCite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[3]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Jocelyn Smith answered the following:

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

Abraham Lincoln: "That government which governs least, governs best." Ronald Reagan: "We don't have deficits because we're taxed too little, we have deficits because government spends too much!"[3]
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
humility, compassion, wisdom[3]
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
empathy, compassion, determination[3]
Do you believe that it's beneficial for state legislators to have previous experience in government or politics?
I am a non-politician, and proud of it. (Political experience often just means lots of years spent doing it the wrong way.) If I ever start acting like a professional politician, impeach me![3]
