Bartenfelder and his family own a farm in Caroline County and run two additional farms in Dorchester County. He has worked as a farmer and farm owner since the 1970s. Bartenfelder previously served in the Maryland House of Delegates from 1983 to 1994 and the Baltimore County Council from 1994 to 2010.[1]

Maryland Secretary of Agriculture (2009-2023)

Bartenfelder has served in office since December 23, 2014, and has served as the acting secretary pending approval by the Maryland State Senate. He replaced Buddy Hance, who served in office from 2009 to 2014.[2]
