Joe Boteler is a former District 6 representative on the Tuscaloosa County Board of Education in Alabama. Boteler sought another term in the primary election on March 1, 2016. His re-election bid ended with his defeat to challenger Randy Smalley (R) in the primary.[1]

Boteler received his high school diploma from Holt High School. He later earned his undergraduate degree from U.S. Naval Academy. Boteler served as an attack helicopter pilot in the U.S. Marine Corps. He is a partner in a construction company and a board member for Mitchell Water System.[2]

Two of the seven seats on the Tuscaloosa County School System school board were up for general election on November 8, 2016. A primary election was held on March 1, 2016.

District 5 incumbent Charles Orr (R) and District 6 incumbent Joe Boteler (R) filed for re-election. Orr was appointed to the board after the primary to replace Mark Nelson (R), while Boteler faced challenger Randy Smalley (R) in the primary. Smalley defeated Boteler to win the District 6 Republican nomination. Orr and Smalley won without opposition in the general election.[3]
