I am Joe Christman and I am a retired police officer with 23 years experience and currently a RN working in the Emergency Department at a rural hospital, I have a BS degree in Criminal Justice and an AS degree in Nursing. I presently serve on the Price City Council . I am an honorable discharged Vietnam Era Veteran of the US Navy. I am married to ReNae Palacios and have raised my family of 3 children in rural Utah. I wish to continue my lifetime of public service in the Utah Legislature as the next Representative for Carbon, Emery, and Duchesne counties of HD 67
  • Rural Economic Development Utah has one of fastest growing economies in the US and Utah should not leave our rural cities, towns, and counties behind. It is imperative to have a voice for rural Utah in the legislature, a voice to promote and develop the tremendous workforce within HD 67 boundaries, The workers who deserve the opportunity to make a living wage, more local control over tax dollars to drive our economy and infrastructure. I support our working families, local governments, and businesses
  • Education Policies that attract the best and brightest teachers…. I don’t see the direction of our “Policies” helping to attract the best and brightest, vouchers, book banning, WPU. I contend that Utah needs to develop policies that retain the best and brightest teachers that we have. Increase teacher pay to ensure it’s a livable wage to sustain a family. I will support issues and policies that expand education funding that benefit rural Utah to ensure our students receive the best educational opportunity possible and fight to ensure the folks we trust to educate our children.
  • Energy and Environment Investment in cleaner energy and water infrastructure in southeastern Utah is vital in the changing environment. Fossil fuels and renewable energy should not be a for or against proposition but intertwined with science, research and initiatives to promote opportunities for the future. The inevitable transition that is on the horizon, is just that on the horizon. I do not support the loss of an energy related job without the opportunity for the displaced worker to obtain a good paying job or our training to transition to another career field.
Healthy Families
I support the opportunity for rural Utah families to have access to affordable healthcare, to be safe from domestic violence, for women to make their own decisions for their healthcare, support efforts and programs for increased mental health, substance use local programs to offer a healthy and safer environment for all rural Utah. My 23 years as a law enforcement officer and 13 years as a registered nurse gives me a unique insight to the social issues facing rural Utah.
To keep the people informed about key policy issues, to provide a strong voice for the constituents, be fiscally responsible and maintain open and transparent communication.
I did my best and tried to be better everyday.
UMWA - United Mine Workers of America, Equality Utah, Women's Democratic Club of Utah, Former State Senator Mike Dimitrich, Former State Representative Brad King
