Allen Joe Fish is a federal judge on senior status with the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas. He joined the court in 1983 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. From 2002 to 2007, Fish served as the chief judge of the district court.

Early life and education

A native of Los Angeles, California, Fish graduated from Yale College with his bachelor's degree in 1965 and from Yale Law School with his LL.B. in 1968.[1]

Fish served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1968 to 1974.[1]

Fish was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on January 31, 1983, to a seat on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas vacated by Patrick E. Higginbotham. Hearings on Fish's nomination were held before the Senate Judiciary Committee on February 15, 1983, and his nomination was reported by U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond (R-S.C.) on February 22, 1983. Fish was confirmed by the unanimous consent of the U.S. Senate on February 23, 1983, and he received his commission the next day. From 2002 to 2007, Fish served as chief judge of the district court. He elected to take senior status beginning on November 12, 2007. He was succeeded in this position by Judge Reed O'Connor.[1][2]
