I am a candidate for Portland City Council representing District 1. I work as a recruiter and have a background in property management and nonprofit work, specifically focusing on homelessness, addiction, and reducing criminal recidivism. My campaign emphasizes improving public safety, reducing emergency response times, and expanding affordable housing and supportive services.
I am also a gardener who loves to share my produce with neighbors, coworkers, and friends, and in my spare time I am an avid Larper and the Executive Director of PORTAL.
** Public Safety & Accountability **
We need a city where there are no hold times when you call 911. Emergency response should be immediate and reliable. I will push for increased public safety measures and appropriate funding to ensure that all of us are protected with fairness and transparency.
**Addressing Homelessness:**
It's time to reclaim our public spaces. No one should be forced to sleep or camp on the streets. I support humane, effective policies that provide shelter and resources to those in need while also ensuring that our parks, sidewalks, and other public areas are safe and accessible for everyone.
**Affordable Housing and Better Jobs:**
Everyone deserves a place to call home and the opportunity to earn a decent living. I will advocate for more affordable housing options and support initiatives that bring better jobs to our city, so that everyone has a fair shot at success.
I am passionate about creating policies that enhance public safety, address homelessness, increase affordable housing options, and bring in better jobs.
I admire Eleanor Roosevelt for her unwavering dedication to human rights, her advocacy for the marginalized, and her commitment to creating a fairer society. Her empathy, resilience, courage, compassion, and leadership inspire me to pursue justice and equality to this day.
Benjamin Franklin
I admire Benjamin Franklin for his remarkable versatility as a statesman, inventor, scientist, and writer. His curiosity and inventions, alongside his commitment to public service, diplomacy, and lifelong learning, reflect an extraordinary mind dedicated to improving society and advancing knowledge.
For an elected official, several key characteristics and principles are essential to ensure effective leadership and public trust:

2. Transparency: Being open about decisions, policies, and government actions helps foster accountability and public confidence.
3. Responsiveness: Officials must listen to and address the needs and concerns of their constituents, ensuring that they remain connected to those they represent.
4. Accountability: Taking responsibility for decisions and outcomes, and being willing to correct mistakes, is vital for trust in leadership.
5. Empathy: Understanding and caring about the diverse needs of the community helps in creating inclusive policies.
6. Vision: A strong sense of direction and long-term planning is important to create progress and address future challenges.
7. Fairness: Being impartial and ensuring that policies and decisions treat all citizens equally, without favoritism or discrimination.
8. Resilience: The ability to remain steadfast in the face of challenges, criticism, or opposition while continuing to make difficult decisions.
9. Collaboration: Working well with others—across party lines, with constituents, and with other governments—is key to achieving lasting solutions.
10. Courage: The willingness to make difficult or unpopular decisions when they are in the best interest of the public, even at the risk of personal or political costs.
The core responsibilities for a Portland City Councilor for District #1
1. To advocate for, and support policies and legislation that improves East Side Portland.
2. Budget Approval and Oversight: Reviewing and approving the city’s budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively for public services, infrastructure, and development.
3. Representing Constituents: Acting as a voice for the community, addressing the concerns and needs of residents, and advocating for their interests.
4. Collaboration with Other Government Entities: Working with county, state, and federal officials, as well as other municipalities, to secure funding, grants, and to address issues that cross jurisdictional boundaries.
April 12, 1981 is the date of the first space shuttle launch. I carried my family's black and white TV set to Elementary School that day so my teacher and class could watch the lift off. Even at that time I knew it was something so significant for the future of space travel and mankind, and I am grateful for having the opportunity to see it first hand.
I support both rigorously, and I know that they are both vital to doing the right thing by everyone. FULL TRANSPARENCY IS POSSIBLE!
