Joe G. Gonzalez represented Place 3 on the San Benito Board of Trustees in Texas. He ran for election to the board on May 9, 2015. Gonzalez defeated Yliana Gonzalez and Fatima Huerta for the Place 3 seat.[1]
Gonzalez previously served on the board in the Place 4 seat from 1997 to 2011. He lost his 2011 re-election bid to June Aguilera by just 16 votes. Gonzalez made a down payment of $800 dollars to cover the cost of a recount. Some of that amount was later returned to him as the recount process did not ultimately cost the full amount.[2]
The winners of the 2015 election joined the district's new superintendent in tackling the consequences of an unbalanced budget. While initially a large reduction in staff seemed necessary to make up for several year's of over spending, other suggested plans hoped to avoid such a cull.
