Campaign themes
2016
Chavez's campaign website highlighted the following issues:
“ |
Education: Our children have the right to an education that will give them multiple opportunities. We need to concentrate on fundamentals and remove bureaucracy from the school systems. We are losing too many educators to other trades because they feel that they are not supported by the state. Public Safety: Our families and communities are not safe! With low staffing numbers in the Albuquerque Police Department, Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department and throughout the State of New Mexico, we cannot participate in community based policing and have become reactive instead of proactive. Addiction: Joe believes that there is an epidemic drug problem is our State which is tormenting our families and communities. "New Mexico has the Second Highest Drug Overdose Mortality Rate in the United States" per 2013 data as stated by Trust for America's Health. The majority of the issues dealing with crime are related to drug addiction. With Joe's 30 years of law enforcement knowledge and experience, he believes that Law Enforcement, Emergency Services, Fire Departments and Hospitals’ in our communities will see a decrease in crime with an increase in rehabilitation programs and facilities.
